    Miller out with muscle strain

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Sabres goalie Ryan Miller will miss Friday night's game against Florida with a lower body muscle strain.

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said Miller developed soreness during off-ice exercises, and doesn't know how much time he'll miss.

"We don't expect it to be too long," Ruff said following Friday's morning skate. "It's something that flared up on him."

Backup Martin Biron will start with Miller out.

this is why they did not get rid of Biron.

                  from sabres.com

Goaltender Martin Biron will make his second consecutive start in net tonight as the Buffalo Sabres take on the Florida Panthers at HSBC Arena (MSG, WGR-550 AM, 8 p.m.).

Ryan Miller suffered what Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff termed a "lower-body muscle strain" that was triggered by an exercise during practice. Miller is being evaluated and is not expected to be absent from Buffalo's lineup for a significant period of time.

"We don't expect [Miller] to be out too long," said Ruff. "It's something that just kind of flared up on him."

Biron has won his previous three starts this season, posting a 2.62 goals against average and a 0.913 save percentage. During the 2005-06 season, the netminder from Lac St. Charles, Quebec won 13 straight starts from November 15, 2005 through December 17, 2005 when Miller was sidelined with a broken thumb.

"That's the point of having Marty here," said Ruff. "These types of things pop-up and Marty is more than capable of playing some great hockey for us."

Gee you think Regier knows what he's doing, good thing he didn't listen to the idiot fans who wanted Biron traded.

Indeed, this is a time when those of us who said "Get rid of that salary" have to say "Damn, were we wrong".

That being said, if the "defense" plays as crappy as it has lately, it won't matter if Dom Hasek comes back in his old body and plays in net.
