Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins are among 37 players whose names will be appearing for the first time in the COLD-fX / NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, Presented by 2K Sports, which opens Nov. 15.
Ovechkin, the 2005-06 Calder Trophy winner, is joined by Calder runners-up Crosby and Dion Phaneuf of the Calgary Flames on the 100-player ballot. Reflecting the phenomenal success enjoyed by many young NHL players who have dominated recent headlines, the ballot also includes 2005-06 Stanley Cup heroes Eric Staal and Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes, 2005-06 NHL goal-scoring leader Jonathan Cheechoo of the San Jose Sharks, 2003-04 goal-scoring co-leader Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets and 2006-07 rookie phenom Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
I like seeing the Sabres names on there. Voting starts Nov. 15.
