Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals (http://www.washingtoncapitals.com/) and Sidney Crosby (http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8471675) of the Pittsburgh Penguins (http://www.pittsburghpenguins.com/) are among 37 players whose names will be appearing for the first time in the COLD-fX / NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, Presented by 2K Sports, which opens Nov. 15.

Ovechkin, the 2005-06 Calder Trophy winner, is joined by Calder runners-up Crosby and Dion Phaneuf (http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8470602) of the Calgary Flames (http://www.calgaryflames.com/) on the 100-player ballot. Reflecting the phenomenal success enjoyed by many young NHL players who have dominated recent headlines, the ballot also includes 2005-06 Stanley Cup heroes Eric Staal (http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8470595) and Cam Ward (http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8470320) of the Carolina Hurricanes (http://www.carolinahurricanes.com/), 2005-06 NHL goal-scoring leader Jonathan Cheechoo (http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8467357) of the San Jose Sharks (http://www.sjsharks.com/), 2003-04 goal-scoring co-leader Rick Nash (http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8470041) of the Columbus Blue Jackets (http://www.bluejackets.com/) and 2006-07 rookie phenom Evgeni Malkin (http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8471215) of the Pittsburgh Penguins (http://www.pittsburghpenguins.com/).

Yes, the annual travesty---NHL All-Star voting! :D

Frankly, all all-star voting is a joke. I always vote for players based on their performances for that year, but, as well know, it ends up being fans voting for the players from their favorite teams. With Dallas hosting the game this year, there's no doubt in my mind Turco will start for the West. He's a damn good goaltender (Ok, and I'm biased towards him, too, since he was a Wolverine), but Giguere deserves the nod for the West.

I'll be ready to vote on 11/15.
