    ATL QB Doug Johnson: His future may hold the key to Price trade with Buffalo.

    Whispers heard in Atlanta;

    The Atlanta Falcons gave restricted free agent QB Doug Johnson a qualified offer of 1.38 million for 1 year. Reportedly there are several teams interested in Johnson, and if one of those teams is willing to offer more money then what the Falcons are willing to match, then chances are Johnson will be playing elsewhere next season. If this takes place, the Falcons would recieve a 1st round compensation draft pick for the loss. Rumor has it (local radio here in Atlanta) that the Falcons will attempt to use this pick to lure Price from Buffalo. :)

    Arizona, Carolina, and Cincinnati are all reported to have interest in QB Doug Johnson. He is a 4 year veteran that many belive is ready to be a starting QB in the NFL. Johnson has successfully backed both Mike Vick and Chris Chandler, and has even won several games for the Falcons in their time of need. Many Falcon fans believe that if Vick wasn't drafted by the Falcons in 2001, that Johnson would be their starter today.

    The Falcons are currently $10 mill under the cap according to ESPN.

          What?? Doug Johnson is worth a First Round Draft Compensatory pick? I'm not saying you're lying, but I find that hard to believe... Usually, teams are given compensatory picks at the same round that the player was drafted, and even then, the highest round is at the end of round three.

          I'd like to see a link on this one.

            Ask and you shall receive. The local rag is the Atlanta Journal and Constitution or AJC:

              It isn't called a compensation pick. He is a RFA and Atlanta gave him the highest tender. If someone signs him to a deal that Atlanta doesn't match...then they will owe the Atlanta Falcons a 1st round draft pick.

                  Mike - so your saying that the team that signs Doug Johnson will have to give a 1st round pick for him? If that's the case, then this thread is moot. There isn't a team in their right mind that would be willing to give up a 1st round pick for Doug Johnson.

                    The problem is no team is going to give up there first round pick for Johnson. The Bengals have the #1 overall pick, Card #6 and Panthers #9. Johnson is not worth a first round pick let alone a top ten pick...

                      Besides that Atlanta wouldnt give us the 1st rounder they would recieve. They have the 23rd pick but would trade a 1st,6th,9th pick overall to us. Ummmmmm right. Doesnt make sence. I think if they traded for Johnson it would be a 2nd-4th round pick.

                        A team owing Atlanta a first round pick makes a lot more sense... I was pretty sure that compensatory picks started after the third round... No team is gonna give a first for Doug Johnson... Hell, New England had a hard enough time getting a first rounder for Drew Bledsoe... *L*

                          This is a mute point! As Len. Redeye, etc have said...............No GM is going to give up a #1 for Johnson. I think even John Butler learned his lesson on giving up a #1 for a QB that has done nothing.
