FORT VALLEY, Ga. (AP) -- Andre Waters, a defensive back who spent most of his 12 seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/teams/eagles), was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound early Monday. He was 44.
His body was found at about 1:30 a.m. at his Tampa home, the medical examiner's office said. He had shot himself in the head. Toxicology reports were ordered and results will be available in four to six weeks, the office said.
Waters, an assistant football coach at Fort Valley State in Georgia, joined the Eagles out of Cheyney State in 1984 and played with them at cornerback and safety through 1993. He was known as one of the NFL's hardest hitters and often was fined for some of his tackles. He spent his last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/teams/cardinals).
"Everybody has been in such shock," Fort Valley State spokeswoman Cindy Gambill said.
Waters was in his first year coaching at the school. Many students, including football players, are not on campus this week because of Thanksgiving.

When those toxicology tests come back they'll find out he was on crack.

No , that's exactly my point.

Many of these players are deliquents who just happen to be big and fast enough to play pro football.

But playing football professionally doesn't change who they are, in fact it might make them worse, because they never had to work in the real world.

you're such a piece of work aren't ya? Do you even know what their childhood was like that might've led them to be who they were ? What's worse than these so called morons(as you put it) are people who can easily judge others without knowing.

So, what you're saying is, if you blew your brains out all over your walls, it wouldn't have to do with any social-economic influences?

Hmmmm... food for thought. Go for it

Waters was cold blooded on the football field. He was one of Buddy Ryan's "hitmen". Remember when Ryan supposedly paid a bounty on Cowboy players?

So much so, the announcers nicknamed him Dirty Waters.
