As a rule, Paul Gaustad doesn't worry about his point totals. He's not a scorer by trade. He imposes his will on a hockey game in a multitude of ways. Gaustad is one of those players whose strength, will and boundless energy seem to lift everyone around him.
But Gaustad admits he was a tad frustrated by his goal-scoring drought. Dating back to last season, and counting playoffs, the Sabres' fourth-line center went 33 games without a goal before breaking through against Florida on Nov. 10. Intangibles are nice, but at some point it's nice to actually find the net. "We were winning games and I was getting chances," Gaustad said Tuesday. "If not for that, I would have been a little more frustrated. You know, I really don't think about numbers when I'm playing. If you do, it'll start to drive you crazy."
