Vick apologizes for obscene gesture to fans after loss

ATLANTA (AP) -- Michael Vick (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/players/5448) apologized for making an obscene gesture toward Atlanta fans as he walked off the field after the Falcons' fourth straight loss Sunday.
Vick used both hands to deliver the gesture and flashed an angry look toward the handful of fans remaining in the Georgia Dome. Those who hung around booed the home team loudly after its dismal 31-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/teams/saints).
"First and foremost, I would like to apologize for my inappropriate actions with fans today," the quarterback said in a statement released by the Falcons. "I was frustrated and upset at how the game was going for my team, and that frustration came out the wrong way."
Vick was the Falcons' main offensive threat with 166 yards rushing, just 7 off his NFL record for a quarterback. He had another rough day passing, completing nine of 24 for 84 yards, but that wasn't entirely his fault.
The Atlanta receivers dropped at least five passes, and the offensive line didn't provide much protection. Vick was sacked three times and hit a dozen more behind the line of scrimmage after throwing passes.
Leaving the field, he let his frustration get the best of him.
"That's not what I'm about. That's not what the Atlanta Falcons (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/teams/falcons) are about," Vick said in his statement. "I simply lost my cool in the heat of the moment. I apologize and look forward to putting this incident behind me."
Vick did not address his actions at a postgame news conference. Reporters were not aware that he made the obscene gesture until afterward, when replays of him leaving the field began airing on television.

Vick should be pointing that at his receivers, they are the one's that really messed him up when he actually threw a ball right.

I disagree. I don't believe that under any circumstances, is it ever appropiate for a guy like Vick, who is making a ton of money, to flip off the fans. He represents not only the franchise but also the NFL. Fans have a right to boo. The way the Falcons are playing right now? They deserve to be booed. WTF. As one of the NFL's MVPs, he needs to conduct himself accordingly. Just my opinion. Personally I think Vick really screwed himself with his misconduct yesterday, He should be ashamed of himself.

It is a big deal when a kid sees it and thinks it's the cool thing to do because Vick did it.

I think the part where he say's "**** you" is the big deal. So before you give Herpes man a pass you might want to get your facts straight. Second, he's the biggest ******* in person I have ever met. He and D'Angelo Hall were at the same event. Hall was a class act, Vick a total rude *******!!

Remember Atlanta traded up for this clown? He hasn't done squat.

On the other hand, San Diego got Tomlinson at #5 overall, plus a 2nd rounder which resulted in Drew Brees.

I bet they're laughing all the way to the bank right now. :snicker:
