THE OFFICIAL POWER RANKINGS THREAD FOR WEEK 8

    TSN.ca - Sabres #1
    19-3-2
There is a reasonable case to be made that Thomas Vanek, who is tied for second in the league with 16 goals has been the highest-impact sophomore in the NHL this season, living up to last year's hype a year late.
Key Injuries: D Henrik Tallinder (arm), C Tim Connolly (concussion), C Derek Roy (hand), D Toni Lydman (neck).

1 (2) Sabres 19-3-2 There's no "giving in" here. The Sabres are 3-1-1 since Ryan Miller's return and the netminder helped the team get through a week's worth of tough opponents (Bolts, Leafs, Habs, Rangers). Order us up a round of wings from Duff's!

1 Sabres1-1/3(.825) Despite having an up and down week, the Sabres were still able to keep hold of the No. 1 spot in the rankings. Buffalo won two games and lost two games in Week 7, outscoring the opposition 11-6 in the wins and getting outscored 8-3 in the losses.

    1. BUFFALO SABRES [unchanged]
    Overall record: 18-3-1 (37 pts)
    Last 10 games: 7-3-0

Have had a few hiccups of late, but keep finding a way to win and have proven they are deep enough in goal to endure an injury. Fun team to watch.

Plenty of role players are still stepping up even as Maxim Afinogenov returned to the lineup, with Paul Gaustad contributing seven points in seven games. What's more amazing about this year's Sabres is that they were on the verge of 100 goals scored with 94 through 22 games, while it took them 31 games last season to reach such a mark.

    01.(01.) Buffalo Sabres Record: 18-3-8-38
You know I think the East is the stronger conference but all but three of the teams in my top 10 are from the west and Buffalo is the only eastern team in the top 5. Maybe the west only looks better on paper because the eastern teams have to beat up on eachother night in and night out. Yeah thats what I'll tell myself. And by the way the game versus Toronto sucked. It was perhaps the most penalty filled game I have ever witnessed. Terrible officiating they ruined the whole game. Brad Meier, Dean Morton, Tim Nowak, and Anthony Sericolo should all be suspended after that mess of a game.

Well, ESPN is back on board and it looks like the rest of them are lining up. We went 7-2-1 in our 17 day journey which is great. I'm sure the team is tired but now resting comfortably, great job boys and keep up the great work!!

I was that close to putting Anaheim in the top spot. But the Sabres keep finding ways to win and have done nothing to earn a demotion. After back-to-back seven-goal games, they became the first team to score 100 goals this season. Equally impressive: of their 19 wins, seven have come after trailing by at least two goals. But the most remarkable stat may be that Buffalo is 15-0-1 when scoring a power-play goal.
