What is the optimal height to have the TV at for the best viewing experience? I don't want to hang it on the wall, btw.

you'll get the best picture if you're looking straight at it, not up or down. I'd put it so the middle of the screen is at eye level or just above eye level.

I think you also don't want to sit too close to it. Mine is about 6/7 feet from the couch and the picture just look ok, but I go to the other room and I'm about 15 feet a way and the picture looks GREAT. It pisses me off.
