View Full Version : Clump? I got a Redskins cap question.

I was just wondering where the Redskins got all this money from. Did they get a lot from releasing Stephen Davis? I mean, they have been going nuts so far. They have already signed and re-signed all these players...

DT Brandon Noble
DT Regan Upshaw
G Randy Thomas
G Dave Fiore
G Tre Johnson
G Lennie Friedman
RB Trung Canidate
K John Hall
QB Rob Johnson

NEXT UP: The Redskins are close to signing WR Ragib "Rocket" Ismail.

How are they doing this? How much cap money did they freaking have? Are they bypassing some kind of NFL rule or something? Or cheating their way around the cap? Is it just me or does this seem a little insane?

Well, they can't have much more...

i know the majority of those guys signed small contracts.. thomas was the biggest at like 25mill for 6 years..

noble was WAY cheaper than i thought.. his contract was only like 8 mill total.

they are signing guys for cheap basically

But the thing thats killing me is the fact that these guys are big names....some of them. :madcurse:

If this is true...why the  is TD not doing this?

The Redskins are mortgaging their future, if u want TD to do this then we would have been better off with Butler, TD is smarter than all the GM's put together, have faith in him.

Remember they lost daryl gardtner and Stephen Davis. Now Gardner had a good year despite his injury history. I still do not see them making a big improvement. No leadership on offense. I see a very mediocre team.

This makes me wonder how accurate were the salary cap figures that were being bandied about . The Redskins certainly got a jump on the market and are to be congratulated for their successes. I am wondering if the Bills got themselves into a bind with the Price situation.

For some reason I always remember the redskins being 7-9, 8-8, or 9-7. Mediocre is the perfect word.

exactly, plenty of signings but not much improvement if any.

Dan Synder is probably a better fantasy owner than a real life owner. They're always betting their entire farm on one or two years, then sit in cap hell later. Remember how one year they brought in Bruce Smith, Deion Sanders, Jeff George and a bunch of other big names? They were like over $100 million in players salaries. What did that get them? Nothing. This year will be the same.

they are averaging 2 player signings a day since free agency started.. they might not be improving themselves by leaps and bounds... but it sure must be fun to be a skins fan right now before they go 8-8 again... alot to talk about if nothing else

I'm working on this....give me some time

OK......I've worked this out to about 80% accuracy ;)

Redskins started about $3 million and cut Stephen Davis, Sam Shade, and 2 other players that had minimal savings. That was approx. $9.4 million in cap savings. Also, Chris Samuels was just restructured to save another $3.7 million and Trotter for $800,000

$3 million over and with the above adjustments, put them about $11 million UNDER.

FA signings with approx. cap number

OL Fiore: $900,000
G T. Johnson: $450,000 (vets exclusion)
G Freidman: $450,000 (vets minimum)
DE Upshaw: $930,000
QB R. Johnson: $655,000 plus bonus amortization
DT Noble: $530,000 plus bonus amortization
K Hall: $850,000
OL R. Thomas: $1.53 million

Trading for Candidate is probably a wash overall even after signing him to an extension.

That would put them about $4.7 million under but still need bonus amortization for Rob Johnson and Noble

This is hysterical! The freaking Skins think they're going to buy the ring again this year. I hate this team so much it makes me SICK! I hope to god that they lose 75% of the games this year and I hope the majority of losses happen at home in Fed Ex Field! I hope ticket sales go down and Danny has to start reaching into his own pockets to fund the team.

I HATE THE FREAKING REDSKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol I actually like the Cowboys, Voltron. They're the main reason I hate the Skins so much. I think the Cowboys/Redskins rivalry is one of the biggest in the NFL.

They even signed Rob Johnson to piss Jaded even more. Those *****s!!! :D

Jaded , what if they signed Flutie instead, would you have changed your opinion re the skins?

Valerie
03-03-2003, 03:37 PM
NO! I'd hate them even more than I already do and I'd seriously have to question my love and loyality to Doug. Anyone who would play for them has some serious issues. I guess that explains Rob's decision to suit up in the burgundy and gold. :D
