DENVER -- Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jake Plummer arrived here Sunday, the new free agent's first stop during a week of meetings with teams interested in talking to him about a job.

Plummer signed autographs for fans when he arrived at Denver International Airport.

"Denver obviously is a great situation,'' Plummer told KCNC-TV. "It's a great city, has great football fans, a program that's won Super Bowls just recently.''

He and free agent defense tackle Daryl Gardner, formerly with Washington, were expected to meet with Broncos officials Monday.

Denver is expected to release quarterback Brian Griese on June 1 to save salary-cap space. The team gave him permission last week to explore trade talks with other teams.

Plummer was expected to meet with Chicago and Carolina officials later in the week. He was Arizona's starting quarterback the last six seasons.

The Cardinals ended their 5-11 season with a 37-7 loss at Denver Dec. 29.

Plummer starred in high school in Boise, Idaho, and led Arizona State to an undefeated regular season and the Rose Bowl in 1996.
