I have some advice for Nate. SHow up every week and put your heart soul and mind on the line and motivate your teamates to do as such and you'll be there. You missed the first 8 weeks of this season.

"It's definitely frustrating because I've never been to the playoffs," said cornerback Nate Clements, now in his sixth season and one of the longest-tenured Bills along with Aaron Schobel and Brian Moorman. "It's frustrating because as a team we work hard and practice hard and not to get the results with the time and effort you put in is frustrating."

I'm going to be really pissed if he signs with anybody in our division.

And I'd be frustrated as well. You can't blame him for wanting to go to the playoffs.

You know who's probably really frustrated.

Takeo Spikes.

He left Cincinnati under the pretense that he'd make the playoffs w/ the Bills.

So far, nothing.

Meanwhile the Bengals have been in the mix the last couple years.

The irony will be of Nate leaving and the Bills getting straight to the playoffs :)

If Nate leaves we're screwed.

Yeah that is truly brutal bad timing.....

If Nate leaves we're screwed.

CB's are very thin in the FA market, and this youboty guy must not be too great if he's not been on the field yet, or even wrestled the nickle or dime CB slot from Kiwaukee Thomas

Well, we probably would have if HE had knocked down that 4th down pass vs Jax :mad:He'll get at least a 4 year $40M deal... That's too much... Especially because (as clump eluded to) I'm not sure he'll "give it" consistantly. I don't care if we have a drop off at CB, the Bills shouldn't pay that much.

When our pass D turns into one of the worst in the leagues when Nate leaves people are going to wonder why we let him go.

Pat Williams v2

Look at Miami...they trade Surtain and their secondary is pathetic.

How were they in 2005?

Even this season they've gotten torched by the likes of Charlie Batch.

Sometimes it's the step backwards that allows the move toward excellence. That same $10M per year can yield 2 or 3 top 10 at other positions. As in everything else in life... IT'S THE BALANCE!!

And Miami has done what since they lost Surtain?

Yasgur's Farm

Don't play dumb. You wanna pay Nate over $10M per year... I say the money can be better spent elsewhere.
If Nate wants to sign a 5 year $35M deal to stay, I'm all for it. Anything more is out of the question.

I find it hard to believe that we couldn't fit Nate Clements under the salary cap at a semi-reasonable price while still not having enough to do anything else.

Everyone thought Pat Williams wasn't worth the money, and our run D has been flat-out terrible since he's left.

With $37M... Of course we could fit him. But what is a reasonable price? For me, it's 5 years... $35M. How about you?

That's less than he's making this year, I believe. You expect him to take a pay cut??

Sign Nate to a 5 year deal worth about 7 million each year average.

I don't think he'll take a pay cut....5 yrs, 40mil.

Are you guys including the signing bonus money?

YardRat

IMO...he'd walk at 5 and 40 also. Someone is going to offer nine or ten.

Hell yeah...that's a big factor in the total salary.

The only way I could see Nate staying for 7 or 8 a year is if the signing bonus was astronomical...which it won't be.

opening day is just as important as week 17 and that was a huge missed opportunity that would have sent us to the playoffs. He blew it on that play as it was his role to knock the pass down.

IMO...he'd walk at 5 and 40 also. Someone is going to offer nine or ten.Agreed.

I think he's gonna take a 6 year $60M deal...
$12.0M bonus
$4.5M 2007
$7M 2008
$7.5M 2009
$8.0M 2010
$8.5M 2011
$12.5M 2012

I would be willing to do the 5 year $40M if it were structured like...
$10.0M bonus
$3.0M 2007
$4.5M 2008
$5.0M 2009
$5.5M 2010
$12M 2011

I'd even do a 6 year that looks like this...
$12.0M bonus
$3.0M 2007
$4.0M 2008
$4.5M 2009
$5.0M 2010
$6.5M 2011
$12M 2012

I agree. Could other players have stepped up on other plays earlier in the game so they would win? Sure. But he had the opportunity to seal the game and guarentee victory, but he went for personal glory (interception) instead.

We make the playoffs if he makes the correct play.
