the trap might be comming back

Last month at the gm meetings in Toronto, a lot of the big market bad teams (read: Philly, St. Louis), and a few of the good but slower teams (Anahiem, Detroit) pushed to have the league go back to pre-lockout officiating.

Apparently as the story went, Buffalo and Toronto threw a fit at the suggestion and it was tabled...

Now i find myself watching a LOT of western conference games this year... and I'll be honest... that whole conference plays the trap, and clutch and grab like they did pre-lockout.

And a few of the more recent sabres games I've seen, teams are trapping as well as they can manage... and starting to get away with a heck of a lot more.

Then i find this article... today

I think it's the Buffalo fan in me, that reads this and thinks... "they'll find a way to steal the cup from us this year"

It gives me nightmares that we'll hit the cup finals and be playing a pre-lockout officiated standard vs the trap & grab Ducks, and watch 2000's finals all over again, losing in 6.
My wife told me that if I had a dollar for every girl who found me unattractive, girls would find me VERY attractive.

    MY WIFE SAID THAT!!!

It will come back...there is no way the league lets these guys fly and start putting 50, 60 and 70 in the net again until they get major revenue sources...

Just watching that piece of crap Devils team makes me cringe at the thought of how the game might be going back to the way it was. If the NHL allow that crap to happen, then they might be the dumbest people on the Earth! Last year's hockey was great, this year it's starting to revert back and I'm not liking it. Let's hope that the changes don't effect the Sabres march to the Cup!

This is such a crock of **** that they are even thinking/talking about this. Teams can't catch up fast enough to the Sabres so let's bring the Sabres back to the rest of the league. What bull****. Why didn't they change the rules back when the Islanders and Oilers were dominate? Because the game was fun back than. They are the biggest idiots in sports if they make this change.

We are so much faster than everyone I really don't think it means anything. You can't hold what you can't catch.

                    the trap has been back...

                    lol...

its just the teams that dont want to part ways with the trap system are asking the league to instruct the refs to let the clutching and grabbing resume

Re: the trap might be comming back

The thing is I think all the fans love the open hockey. It has really helped the game and make it very exciting. Clutching and grabbing are not going to fill the seats on a continual basis. Offense sells. If the NHL reverts back to its old ways it will take multiple steps back. New Jersey is a very boring team. Only an idiot would want to watch that on a continual basis.
Of course stupid teams like Philly want clutching and grabbing. They had the Matt Millen of hockey as there GM and signed slow physical players like Derian Hatcher to big contracts when they knew the NHL was trying to bring speed and offense back to the league.

If they bring back all the clutching and grabbing, they will lose me as a regular fan of all the teams. I'll still watch the Sabres and root for them, but thats it. The clutching and grabbing made the games and now the games are finally exciting to watch and were even more exciting last year. Plus, it makes the Sabres really good. Go figure! Once the Sabres are good, the league wants to revert back to form? ****ing morons! They'll never learn.

The trap is back in a sense but it isn't as nearly as effective with two line passes and the clutching and grabbing being called more.
