Empire Sports Network To Change Lineup On March 17

Empire Sports Network announced today that its programming lineup will change on Monday, March 17. The new format will include a simulcast of Howard Simon’s radio show on 107.7 WNSA, moving “Fan TV” to primetime and adding a late night edition of “Empire Sports Report”. This is the first major programming shakeup for the network since the advent of “Fan TV” in September 1996, followed by “Empire Sports Report” eight months later.

Beginning March 17, “The SimonCast” makes its debut. Empire Sports Network will televise Howard Simon’s radio weekdays from 3:00-6:00 p.m. bringing Western New York’s most respected sports voice back to television. Simon was a co-host for “Fan TV” for five years before moving over to radio.

After more than six years in the 4:30 p.m. time slot, “Fan TV” will move to 7:00 p.m. and switch to a one-hour format. Jim Brinson and Bob Trimble will continue to host the weekday show, with Brinson carrying the first half-hour and Trimble taking over for the final 30 minutes. “Fan TV” will continue to cover the day’s major stories in a magazine style format.

The network’s transformation continues with “Empire Sports Report” as the 30-minute news program will now be televised three times daily, seven days a week. Josh Mora will anchor during the week with newcomer Jason Bristol taking over on the Saturday and Sunday. The show’s early edition moves from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., while the 10:30 p.m. “Sports Report” remains in place. A new late edition at 11:30 p.m. has been added to the schedule as well.

“After seven years as a late afternoon sports desk, it’s time to go primetime,” said Empire Sports Network Vice President and General Manager Bob Koshinski of the upcoming programming changes. “This will give sports fans throughout the region their fill of Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres news, as well as other sports throughout the region.”

When is Empire going to understand that TV goes over better on the radio than radio goes over on TV? That Bills postgame looking at Howard Simon's headphones is ridiculous.

Put Simon behind a desk, or even in that Tasker / Vic Carrucci living room, have a guest or two and show clips instead of showing Howard's bald spot.

I was so hoping to win the powerball and go buy Empire. A lot of heads with bad hair would roll.
