ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- J.P. Losman can stop looking over his shoulder. He's won the right to be the Buffalo Bills starting quarterback beyond this year.

Citing Losman's improved performance as this season progressed, coach Dick Jauron said Thursday he intends to keep Losman as the team's starter going into next year.

Losman started slow but has shown a lot of progress over the last month. I'm satisfied with this, especially given that the other options are
a) Craig Nall
b) Jake Plummer
c) Trading away our entire draft to get Brady Quinn

The right choice, because now we can address making the rest of the team better without wasting a draft pick or cap money on a position that's stabilized and has the potential to be a major plus.

JP is making progress, and job security will only help boost his confidence and his motivation. i am fine with this decision.

Dick Jauron is all of a sudden looking like a smart guy for sticking w/ JP Losman early on when a quarterback change would have been well-recieved by most Bills fans.

Myself included.

At this point, Losman looks the part of a good NFL quarterback.

Consider some of his numbers since the bye week...

He's 4-2 as the starter.

He has 8 touchdowns compared to only 4 interceptions.

He's engineered two last minute drives for the win.

He's got two wins against winning teams.

He's thrown for over 1000 yards.

He's thrown for a 64% completion rate.

His quarterback rating is about a 93.

All very good stats.

So it's understood that JP Losman is our guy for the immediate future.

It sounds bad, but I sort of hope they somehow get eliminated from the playoffs. I want to see how he and the rest of the team responds when there's truely nothing to play for.

That being said, he's exceeded all my expectations - on a very sub-par squad to boot. He's shown marked improvement, kept the majority of games close, produced some game-winning drives... all with a less than stellar OL, 1 WR, and no TE. I thought 5 wins would be progress... he's helped us get 6 and kept us (mathematically) in the playoff race midway through December.

I know what he's capable of now... now I want to see him execute when given a good supporting cast. I think he will be a damn good QB if given the right team to work with.

"I think it's great. I think it lets you go into the offseason with a mind-set of peace," Evans said. "I'm glad that Dick said that, but I wouldn't see why he wouldn't. I think (Losman's) done a lot and he's only getting better. The success we're having on offense, he's engineered."
