The origins of Bingo can be traced back to the year 1530 in which a State run lottery game Lo Giuco de Lotto was originated. The game is still held every Saturday in Italy. "Le Lotto" migrated to France in the late 1700s in a form similar to the Bingo we know today, with a playing card, tokens and numbers read aloud.

Throughout the 1800's these lottery type of games spread quickly throughout Europe and many offshoots of the game were created. One popular form of game had a player's card divided into 3 horizontal rows and 9 vertical ones.

The first vertical row contained the numbers from 1 to 10, the second from 11 to 20, and so on until 81-90 on the ninth vertical row. The 3 horizontal rows each contained five squares with numbers in them and 4 blank ones.

The hiostory of bongo drumming can be traced to the Cuban music styles known as Changüi and Son. These styles first developed in eastern Cuba (Oriente province) in the late 1800's around the time that slavery was abolished.

Initially, the bongo had heads which were tacked and tuned with a heat source. By the 1940's metal tuning lugs were developed to facilitate easier tuning. Some of the first recordings of the bongo can be heard performed by the groups Sexteto Habanero, Sexteto Boloña and Septeto Nacional. These and other early recordings have been reissued on several record labels including Tumbao and Corason.

These drums are still a fundamental part of the Abakua Religion in Cuba, which is still only accessible to the Initiates. Even today, these drums look much like the bongos we know, if they were joined with a wooden peck in the middle."

Hello. My dog licks the skins on my bongo drums. Should I be concerned? I think that maybe she is waiting for me to go fishing and leave the drums behind at the campsite, but I'm not sure since she hasn't yet learned English. Any tips would be appreciated!

Q: Should I put anything on the heads?

Only if the heads feel really dry. Here's what you do: Put a bit (about a quarter sized portion) of almond oil or any good lotion with lanolin in the palm of your hand, then rub your hands together, and rub the lotion or oil into the drum heads. You can do this as often as the heads feel dry, to keep the leather supple, and not brittle
