Last year at the opponent's blueline when the Sabres dumped the puck in and chased it if they were impeded in ANY way at all there was a penalty called. Now more teams are standing them up at the blueline and getting in their way just enough to make the difference and the damn refs aren't calling it again. This has made a huge difference in our puck control and takes a lot of our speed out of the equation. Conversley on the other side, our defense is still playing by last year's new rules and not holding up opponents that are dumping and chasing on us for fear of getting called. They are getting hemmed up in their own end too much because of it. That along with weak play along the boards and trying to get too cute with passing the puck out of our own end is really leveling the playing field for opponents against us. The NHL has to get on these refs and not let them dictate how the game is played all of the time. Their discretion in their calls has a dynamic effect on the game every year and they should be monitored constantly by the NHL to keep their lame asses in check.
