So you want to watch the game on Sunday?

With the NFL set to blackout one of the biggest games for the Bills in
recent memory, I thought I'd mention a way around our shared dilemma.

First, I'd like to say that I totally support the Bills and their long-
term future in WNY. I've been a season ticket holder since 2000 and
have missed all of 2 games since then - I guess my point is that I'm
not out to screw the Bills. Well, I'm about to miss game number 3
because my first-born son is now old enough to have some clue as to
what Christmas is all about, and there are just some things that are
more important than football. That said, I hate the thought of not
being able to watch the game, especially with an unused game ticket in
    my hand.

The good news for those of us with broadband connections in WNY is
that the game will be streaming live on the internet for all to see.
I'll give some links, but here's a quick overview of how it works...

Somebody in the UK or Europe started up this site that links peer-to-
peer users together and lets them know what games (soccer, football,
hockey, basketball, baseball, etc...) are being steamed by users all
around the world. Without getting into too many details, these
streamers have their computers hooked up to their satellite or cable
boxes and broadcast whatever's playing over the internet (in real-
time) for anyone with the appropriate software and a fast enough
internet connection to see. Not all games are broadcast, but
fortunately for us, the Christmas Eve game is (probably by somebody
with the NFL Ticket or just lives in Tennessee and actually owns a
    computer).

Understand that there are several different software players that
people use, and the correct player to use for the game you want to
watch may require you to install a different software player. Here's
an overview of what to do specifically to watch the Bills-Titans game
    on Sunday:

    1. Install Real Player 10:
CNET Download provides free downloads for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices across all categories of software and apps, including security, utilities, games, video and browsers

    2. Install Sopcast (software player for Windows):

    3. Startup Sopcast and go to the channel listing (the Bills game is on
    Sopcast channel 14470)

    That's it!

Here are some links for further research/reading:

The main site (check out the 'Other Sports' section, specifically
    NFL/NCAA)

Details about Sopcast and installing/running it:

The 'Beginner's Guide' (mostly what I've just outlined above):

    Good luck...

I have a ticket, but cannot go...it's the rest of you cheapskates that are causing my pain.

(note: I'm not necessarily talking about you if you have a ticket as well.)

I would be there if I was not heading to Las Vegas on the 29th.

Like I said, I'd rather be there like I am every home game, but sometimes family just comes first. I think there are probably plenty of other people in a similar situation, thus the original post.

I expect a lot of no-shows in addition to the 18,000+ who didn't buy a ticket, so make sure you scream extra loud when Tennessee has the ball. Our non-sellout vs. Miami was one of the loudest games in a while.

The Sopcast is good, but not great. The resolution sucks at full screen and gets really choppy at times. Although I am thinking since it is peer to peer the more people that have it up the smoother it may be.

I personally was a long time D-TV suscriber with a 150+ dollar a month bill not including the NFL ticket but just got tired of the crap. Poor amounts of HDTV available for an extra charge, most bills games over the last few years where not HD which really pissed me off and no local channels in HD. BTW for those who don't know you need to have a certain amount of $$$ spent per month to reach A status as they called it. It's funny cause when you call with a problem and the broken english operator gets on they look up your account info, when they realize you are A status they switch you over to a american, perfect english speaking person who can help you with all your problems immediately. While it's great to know you get better customer service I still feel it's total B.S.

Long story short I am waiting for cable companies to win their talks they are having with the NFL to appeal the rights and pick up the network etc. I like not having to worry about rain(I live in Florida) knocking my signal out and having phone/internet/tv all in one. I did get spoiled on the FIOS line from verizon but I am sure I will get over it when we move into our new house.

Choppy at times, but better than nothing. Unfortunately, DTV and the Sunday Ticket do not help those of us in WNY, as the blackout applies to that service as well.

Seriously? Did not know that and that pretty much sucks. Tampa is always old out even though half the stands are empty it seems, same with Miami over the last few years I have attended games down there.

True, but this game is scheduled to be on Sopcast channel 14470.

Easy there, superfan...this is certainly the biggest since the Bledsoe debacle against Pittsburgh with a shot to get to the playoffs. When you haven't been to the postseason in 7 years, every chance to get there is a big game.
