I have one every year, and I'm still sick.

Playing in the rain all day doesn't help either.

Just because you get a flu shot doesn't mean you aren't going to get the flu. There are many different strains of it going around all the time, and they guess which one will be most prevalent, so that is what they vacinate for. You can still get the others.

Yeah. We're talking about the flu. Not the Black Plague. I imagine most of these guys can play through it. JP practiced, just didn't feel up to talking to the media. I imagine it was a convenient excuse.

I get a flu shot most years and I never get the flu when I do. However, I usually get colds a few times a year. Could this be a mixing of terminology.

I get the damn flu shot (or flu mist) every frickin year and I get REALLY sick EVERY time. I hate it. The ONLY times I haven't ended up REALLY sick - are the years I managed to dodge the damn thing. But unfortunately that seems to be the one database that's get updated in a timely manner. DAMMIT.

Antibiotics kill bacteria, not viruses.

The flu is considered a Rhino Virus that can be treated with antibiotics. A rhino virus can get into the mucus membranes anc can cause upper respiratory tract infections and the flu. The Pathogen is a disease causing organism. The flu virus is caused by others coughs, laughs, just conversation.

So yes the flu is a virus. There are two types of the flu virus :

Influenza A
Influenza B

We get the flu when our immune systems are on the decline...

Just to let you know I just finished a "contemporary issues in health class".

First, you should know that "cold" and "flu" are mainly caused by viruses. The most common are rhinovirus, adenovirus, coronavirus, influenza virus, parainfluenza virus, and respiratory syncytial virus. For most patients, we don't figure out which virus is involved unless they are very sick (most often with influenza, which is worse than the others). Bacteria are rarely involved, which is why you should not take antibiotics for a cold or the flu. Antibiotics affect only bacteria, not viruses. Influenza, or "flu," is caused by influenza virus. But often the word "flu" is used to refer to other illnesses, which may be caused by other viruses.Better just give them chicken soup.

Antibiotics can be given to a person with "early stages" of the flu. I have the book right in front of me.

Don't bother taking antibiotics to treat your flu or cold; antibiotics do not kill viruses, and they should be used only for bacterial complications such as sinus or ear infections. Overuse of antibiotics has become a very serious problem, leading to a resistance in disease-causing bacteria that may render antibiotics ineffective for certain conditions. Not negative, just dealing with facts. If a doctor ever prescribed antibiotics for me for the flu, I'd find myself another doctor.

A lot of times people throw the term "flu" around a lot, when they really don't mean influenza. Influenza is nasty enough that it could easily affect the outcome of a game. However, what people are calling the flu could easily be a cold or an intestinal virus. Neither of those is anything to be concerned about, unless a player contracts an intestinal virus the day of the game. Then it can slow him down.

It's been a few days. They'll be fine, especially once the adrenaline kicks in.
