OL no longer a priority for Bills?

You need espn insider but this is worth discussing

    • We hear that the success in recent weeks of the Bills' revamped offensive line may answer two questions heading into the offseason. First, we hear that ex-OLT Mike Gandy's strong play at left guard likely means he will be re-signed in order to keep the line intact. Second, we hear that the Bills may not feel as much pressure to make the O-line a top draft priority anymore.
Pro Football Weekly is hearing plenty, including that those close to Brett Favre believe the Packers' QB will return in 2007.

I don't know about this. I still think we need a little more help up front.

DL needs to be our main priority. You cant win if you cant stop the run.

problem is.. who do you replace?

they are right.. the line did play well.. against some stiff defenses.. no one that has played since the bye week deserves to be benched.. bring in competition sure, but i doubt anyone beats them out..

we need a stud TE.. maybe a RB.. and maybe a WR.. on o.

we need a stud DT for sure (maybe pat williams), maybe a MLB, and maybe a CB..

we have plenty of top priorities other than line.

I don't have aproblem with that. Drafting OL will take a couple of years before they are ready. But I still think we need an upgrade on the right side and like Tatonka said , MAYBE a rb depending on how much Willis is asking

First-day guards can come in and start from day 1. Probally not 1st-day tackles though (unless your name is Marcus McNeill).

I would be more than happy to see us pick up Kris Dielman from SD. IMO, Steinbech will be paid like a tackle. Dielman may come cheaper? I'm not sure.

If we pick up Dielman and re-sign Gandy, then I say draft another Day-2 O-Lineman and we are set there.

I'd keep the O-line intact as much as possible. Think about it. Pennington, Butler, Preston, Merz are all rookies or 2nd year guys. Why draft any more? Sign a few vets to be backups for depth, but I'd concentrate on D-line, LB and even RB in the draft before I'd worry about grooming any more young O-line guys.

Gandy played well at Guard IMO. I am all for keeping him.

Well, I'd be willing to bet the Bills take a CB in round 1. They (the coaches and front office) seem high on McCargo and Williams, and they signed Freeney last year, so I honestly don't think they'll draft a DT in round 1. I think it will almost definately be a CB, or maybe even a WR/RB.

If they, for some miraculous reason, re-sign Nate, then all bets are off.

I agree but this is the trap that we've fell into dating back to the end of the Kelly years. Just when we think we have an OL intact with journeymen and lower rated draft picks it goes all to ****. I like what our OL is doing right now but we still need to stay aggressive in drafting and signing quality players for depth and eventual replacement. I think we need to keep working towards a great OL not just adequate.

Or draft a MLB to replace Fletch. I hope they draft Patrick Willis, MLB from Miss.

I would still like to see one more interior signed/drafted. I am not sure if Preston is the answer at guard.

Another good possibility. I guess we'll find out over the winter what the Bills' top draft priority will be based on who they sign/don't sign via Free Agency.
