I think the Bills' weaknesses get exposed today. O-Line problems, lack of run stopping ability and that J.P. is not really that far along or at least not as far as we think.

I do not think they sneak up on Baltimore today.

Well, that wasn't very good for Moorman's net punting average. Great punt for the Bills, just not a good one for him personally.

After watching Lechler booming punts into the EZ for touchbacks earlier to mauintain his lead in gross punting, it's refreshing to see Moorman sacrificing his personal goals for the team.

We aren't exactly lighting it up through the air either are we?

Remember that one game (the December Snow Bowl with Bledsoe, Price, Henry, and Moulds) when we knew the Dolphins were gonna run on us with Ricky Williams and we stacked the line?

well guess what - I remember this one play where we stacked the line and Ricky Williams broke through and ended up in the Endzone - running the ball punishes the D, and if you can break through that first line (which becomes more and more possible with each running play as you tire the D) you can break off some "chunk" plays.

ublinkwescore
12-31-2006, 04:25 PM
Now you pass - take a shot at the endzone - or at least send a reciever or two into the endzone - there's no defense for a perfectly thrown pass.

ublinkwescore
12-31-2006, 04:27 PM
stupid - we should have gone for it - they only had 36 seconds on the clock - if our D couldn't keep them from scoring with that little amount of time on the clock and that far to go, then it's a true sign of greater needs on the D side.

LifetimeBillsFan

The score is too close to try that on 4th down. If you miss, the Ravens would get the ball near mid-field with enough time to move into FG range and then, instead of being down one score, you'd be down 2 scores. The Bills' D hasn't played well enough to risk it.

I beg to differ - we had to take that shot - it could have been huge for momentum going into the half - we put points up there, we come out in the 2nd half with more confidence.

ublinkwescore
12-31-2006, 04:31 PM
And now you see them just taking knees - they would have done the same thing regardless of whether or not we did anything on 4th down.

halftime at the snooze fest :tired:

On the road against a superior opponent, that's precisely what a lot of NFL coaches would ask for: a close snooze fest with their own team within one score of the lead.

It's not the kind of game that will excite the fans, but coaches don't think like fans--they think about keeping their teams in the game, especially when their guys haven't been playing really well. They're thinking, "If we're still in the game, we still have a chance to turn it around and win it with one big play."

HHURRICANE

I agree with the call on this team, this year. However, I'm a little scared that with a better team next year we might play to lose. I hope Jauron has some flxibility wit his coaching!

LifetimeBillsFan

Yeah, with the ball at the 20 they take a knee--why risk a turnover deep in their own end when they have the lead. No way that they take a knee if they have the ball at their own 40 with 30 seconds left--2-3 short completions and they are in long FG range. That's the difference that field position makes in their thinking.

ublinkwescore
12-31-2006, 04:39 PM
Well, I guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree.

we've got nothing to play for other than pride - which would have been a bigger boost in the pride department?:

going into the half with either a 1 point lead, or down by 3,

or

going into the half down by 6?

I seriously doubt they had enough time to score - time was on our side had we employed a nickle prevent D - I think.

The_Philster

I think that he will be more flexible with a better team, but, based on everything that he has done and said--everything that indicates his philosophy and how he approaches the game--I still think that he will tend to a more conservative approach to the game. I just don't see Jauron being a guy who will ever be a "wing it and go" type coach, like say an Andy Reid. I think he will always take more of a methodical, defense-oriented, "keep the game close and win it in the end if you have to" type of coach in the Belichick, Schottenheimer mode.

Levy was that way before he came to trust Kelly and Marchibroda and the Bills offense. DJ may open things up some if he comes to really trust JP and Fairchild, but I don't see that happening in the short term. Maybe at the end of next season at the earliest. Until then, I see him playing things "close to the vest". (Remember that Belichick did that with Brady, too--the Pats played a lot of 17-14 games even after Brady won the SB for them--until he developed confidence in his offense).

Despite the pounding Losman is taking, he shows nice poise and delivers a 44 yard pass to wide open stud wideout Lee Evans who has to actually stop and wait for the ball for a few seconds before scoring. Great play by special teams finally downing the ball on 1 and then defense blunders and they dig out of the hole.

We need an interception by Mr. Underrated (Fletcher) but he needs to get it to endzone.

Whatever the outcome of the game, Kyle Williams is having a really good day today. He's already got 6 tackles--4 solos. The Bills' run D has been a bit better today, too--still not great or good enough, but better.

With Tim Anderson inactive today, I think it is fair to say that it looks like he will be gone after this season.

Good. If the Bills are going to lose this game, I want every team with 6 or 7 wins that can possibly win to do so today.

If Balt. scores on this drive the Bills may as well take a look at their back-ups from here on out to see what they have.

McGee. He has been #2 CB at times and has made several solo tackles.

They appear to be using DBs who can tackle and good vs run.

I guess they are trying to find out what he can do. He's so good on STs that I think they want to keep him, but he has to be able to do something for them more than just that next season.

It appears to me that they think McGee is too small to play vs Baltimore WRs in certain formations / yardage situations.

McGee is definitely healthy returning kicks.

I'm not sure. It would probably depend on a number of factors and I'm not sure what those would be. I just figure that the Bills have a chance to move up if they are tied in win and have no chance if SF has just 6 wins.

 Isn't it always?

That's my favorite route to run whenever I'm playing - I can run fast enough to get just far enough behind who ever's covering me to give my QB the confidence to make that bomb throw - and it doesn't hurt that I'm 6'1" or 6'2" either.

let's get two linemen for each position on the line - one that can runblock and one that can pass protect - then when we need to confuse the D, we can mix it up a little.
