Assuming you could choose just one FA to come in and help the Bills in 07 who would you choose? Current Bills players are possible choices.....

Ill start off and say Eric Steinbach G Cincinnati.

even though he's old enough to join AARP, he still has better knees than most of Tom Donahoe's draft picks.

Nate, Steinbach, Briggs. In that order.

No thanks to Freeney or Samuel because every ex-Patriot we pick up ends up playing mediocre for us.

I'd take Eric Steinbach or Lance Briggs

Patrick Kerney at LE - doubling up with Aaron will give opposition QBs nightmares.

Steinbach can be covered by signing David Diehl more cheaply.

Briggs can be covered by signing Matt Wilhelm from the Chargers and/or a R1 pick ... how good is he not alongside Urlacher?

1- Nate.. Love him or not, he makes the whole secondary better.. ON that note, its NEVER going to happen..

so
2- Diehlman.. He doesnt come as highly regarded as Steinbach, but he's very underated, would come cheaper and would be a tremendous upgrade at RG.

Matt Wilhelm is signed long term.
My list would be....
Freeney, Nate, Briggs, Dielman, Stein

I like the Dielman pick actually..... he is very underrated. Would be a great pick-up and cheaper than Stein for sure

Night Train

Guards - Dielman and Steinbach
LB's - Briggs and Adalius Thomas of Baltimore
RB - Michael Turner of San Diego
DT- Terdell Sands of Oakland and Robaire Smith of Tenn.
WR - Drew Bennett of Tenn.

I don't have a priority list. I just want to see the Bills go after a few of these guys hard and upgrade positions of need.

The more we get, the less pressure we have on Draft day.

Eric Steinbach G Cincinnati.

I wish the Bills would have drafted him once upon a time.

Theres rumblings of Warren Sapp leaving Oakland... how would you guys feel about him coming to Buffalo for 2 years or so? He had 10 sacks this year from the DT position and had a great season.

I like Tony G..... but there are younger TE prospects available like Eric Johnson and Daniel Grahame.

But Gonzo is still way better than those two. I'm not thinking long-term ... I want a guy who will help dramatically improve the offense NOW. Any other TE would be just a redundancy of Royal, and we don't need that.

Any leaves open guys like Dwight Freeney. Steinbach may mean more to this team. But you just rarely get a shot at a guy like Freeney, from Syracuse....

It would depend on two factors: 1.) whether Glenn Dorsey from LSU is coming out in the draft or not; and 2.) Rod Coleman's age, health and how much it would take to sign him.

The Bills need a 1-gap DT who fits their defensive system in the worst way: you can win with a mediocre offense, but you can't win if you can't stop the run and it is easier to find LBs than it is to find a 1-gap DT who can be an impact player in this system. Coleman is precisely the kind of 1-gap DT that the Bills need. The only concerns that I have about him are his age, health and whether the Bills could afford him (I don't know how old or healthy he is at this point). Depending on his age, if he is healthy, the only thing that would keep me from making him my choice would be if I could get Glenn Dorsey in the draft. Dorsey, who some compare to Tommie Harris, is a 1-gap DT who has the potential to be as good or better than Coleman and is younger. If Dorsey, a junior, enters the draft, I'd pass on Coleman and fill choose a different free agent to fill another position that I feel the Bills need to address.

In that instance (if the Bills could draft Dorsey), I would opt to sign Lance Briggs of Chicago. With Fletcher-Baker at 32, I would let him go and replace him with Briggs, who has demonstrated that he can play both OLB and MLB and has been an impact player in the defense the Bills play. The Bills have some nice LBs in Crowell, Ellison and Spikes, but Crowell is coming off of an injury and Spikes hasn't shown that he will be able to return to his pre-injury form yet. Additionally, the Bills have used 4 LB sets to counter the two-TE, two back sets that some teams use to run the ball. If the Bills could get a stud 1-gap DT in Dorsey through the draft, having 4 quality LBs would really beef up their run defense a lot.

If I could squeeze in a second FA, it would be an OG: Steinbach would probably cost too much, but Diehl or Diehlmann would be more than acceptable.

Keeping Clements would be nice, but, with Youboty, I would have to trust the coaching staff to get Youboty up-to-speed and ready to step into the starting lineup in Clements' place. No doubt there would be a drop-off in performance from Clements to Youboty, but IMHO the improvement in the run defense would more than offset what was lost at CB.

Steiunbach will have a much bigger impact on the Bills than Nate did. Nate played at his highest level after the bye. He sucked in 2005. I want players that show up every week.
