Bottom line:

<TABLE height="100%" cellSpacing=2 cellPadding=2 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Remember most of these stats happened ~30 years ago or so, the advent of talent and the trap and all new defensive schemes and training have leveled the playing field so to even be able to enter one or two positive thing in a season on here is amazing Montreal had 3 different stats in 75-76. They also crushed their opponents all that year and won the stanley cup. <!-- google_ad_section_end --></TD></TR><TR><TD class=windowbg2 vAlign=bottom align=left bgColor=#ffffff colSpan=3></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Can't compare them.

Shootout vs no shootout vs no overtime.

Ok, so do we knock out all sports records because of improvement in medical treatments? How about the intervention of steroids? The russians being able to play in the NHL after defections? The introductions of all the euro players? How about the trap? Left wing lock?

Where do you draw the line when the rules change or how much better people have gotten?

Some things get easier and some get harder, so however things change you can create an argument one way or the other. I just read the stats and translate them. If those are the rules and everyone is playing under the same rules at the same time it's all the same.

I suppose someone only needs to win 13 regular season games for a perfect season in the NFL, right?

The 75-76 Habs didn't have as much travel as the Sabres.

No, you can't compare eras that have a HUGE effect on points and wins with the shootout and overtime being put in.

What's our record if there's no shootout? I doubt its even close to being on pace with those teams.

Those guys had ties as well and collected points.

But the Sabres have a chance to gain another point with the shootout, whereas the other teams didn't. We've won a fair amount of games in the shootout that inflate our record when you compare us to those teams.

They could of gained another point with a win as well. Just because you go to a shootout, it doesn't mean you get anything extra except 1 point. Your acting like SO's are a guarantee for extra points and they are not.

????

You're completely missing my point skooby.

SO's aren't a guaranteed win, BUT ITS ANOTHER OPPURTUNITY FOR MORE POINTS/WINS.

Instead of receiving 1 point and a tie, you go to the shootout and either get an OTL and 1 point, or 2 points and a WIN.

Those other teams never had that oppurtunity, and if you want to compare the records you have to consider when they implemented overtime and when they added the shootout. Otherwise you're comparing apples and oranges.

You do have a point there but everyone is playing by the same rules now so I think it still evens it out in the long run. Getting more points will be easier now though, just like you said.

Oh well, let's hope we win it all and we'll celebrate just the same, Cool?
