The Ottawa Senators were the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last season, but could not get past the Buffalo Sabres in the playoffs.

Now Buffalo sits atop the standings but can't seem to beat Ottawa.

The Sabres are coming off a perfect four-game homestand as they go back on the road Wednesday looking to avoid falling to the Senators for a fourth straight time.

"I don't like to lose to them," Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said after his team's 3-1 home loss to Ottawa on Dec. 16 in the most recent meeting.

"It gives them confidence. It's something we have to rectify as a team."

The Sabres (29-7-3) needed only five games to knock out the Senators (21-18-2) in last season's conference semifinals en route to the Stanley Cup finals. Buffalo has performed as if it could end up playing for the championship again this season, taking a big conference lead into the new year, but three of its seven losses in regulation have come against its Northeast Division rival.

Heck the goal before it Tallinder was sleeping, and let his man pop in the rebound. you know something is wrong when Tallinder lets his man pop in a rebound.

the only sabre playing at all on that last pp goal by Heatley was Kalinin.

looks like they're mailing it in.

The trouble is that Buffalo has been getting away with winning all season by playing only one or two good periods and taking the rest off. They don't match up well with Ottawa so they need to work hard the whole game. You would think that the fact that they are the team that has beat them the most this year would inspire them a little more.

At least it sounds like they are going to start to negoiate with Briere.

I hate to say this, but this game has been an embarrassment for the Sabres. Ruff has coached very poorly tonight by continuing to put the 1st team PP unit out there when they can't get out of their own way. He needs to shake up the units and try something different. Scott Arniel leaving was a huge loss to that unit and McCutchen just doesn't have the background to make it go. They need to get that thing turned around. Unfortunately, as of right now in the season, we are Ottawa's *****...and that is unnacceptable.

In the last 2 minutes Peters, Mair, Goose and Co. start getting physical and taking exception to the *****slapping they've been taking all night. Too late now boys..no one finished their checks all night.:1:

Poor coaching tonight by Ruff. He kept putting out the guys that just weren't hustling. He needs to shuffle the lines up when this happens and not just keep doing the same thing over and over and over. Another aggravating loss to the Sens.

It's great to know that you can kick goals into the net now. Is that some sort of Ottawa home ice rule or something?

Well, seeing as to how it wasn't kicked in it was a goal. It went off a Buffalo players stick before it went in, I believe Teppo Numminen. Atleast thats what I saw.
