"Bob in Seattle: I am ALREADY tired of sports-writers saying that the "home town team's schedule for 2007 is really, really tough because the combined record of the teams is XXX-YYY." AAGGHHHH! I hope you'll be publishing 2007 Strength of Schedule for each team based on the Final 2006 DVOA so the informed NFL fan can accurately evaluate schedules for next season.

Aaron Schatz: Your wish is my command. Of course, DVOA this season doesn't tell you which teams will be good or bad next season. We can get a good idea of what's up by looking at the average 2006 DVOA of 2007 opponents. I'll use weighted DVOA so we account for the fact that teams like Tennessee are likely to be better next year.

When it comes to regular schedule, it isn't even close: The four hardest schedules in the league belong to the four teams in the AFC East.

Here's the whole list:

1. BUF 6.7%
2. NYJ 6.4%
3. NE 5.7%
4. MIA 3.7%
5. IND 3.6%

...

Sweet.

I called this a few weeks ago when someone posted our opponents- I think we only have 4 games against teams under 500 this year- Miami (2x), Cleveland, Washington.

We had the NFCN and AFCS this year. Within those two divisions there was not one balanced team from offense to defense and only their respective division winners went to the playoffs.

We were tied for the 23rd toughest this season.

Ya can't have the easiest schedule each season. It'll be good for us. Besides, teams change drastically in the offseasons these days.

Where were you looking? According to the percentages used in the draft order Buffalo had the toughest schedule this year.

I could care LESS. Good teams find a way to win games. If the Dolphins can find a way to shutout the Patriots and then come back and get shutout by us, anything can happen. The only reason I don't like the hard schedule next year is because then we always have that excuse. "Well we we're a good team, but I mean, look at our schedule we had. Next year we'll be ready."

Playing the better teams will always make you a better team and a more humble team as well. It will build much more confidence beating playoff caliber teams than beating the Dolphins every time.

Before the season, our schedule was considered the 23rd toughest... After the season was over, based on winning precentages of opponents, it was the toughest in the league.

Logical conclusion to this is that while statistically our schedule for next year is the hardest... it reality it won't be when it's all said and done.

I don't care if we played every team that's going to the playoffs this year in next years schedule. If we beat them in regular season, we should be primed for the playoffs barring injuries.

I don't think that's right. Per the strength of schedule figure used for draft purposes, we had the hardest schedule of anyone this year.
