I know that sounds derogatory, especially since I know several people who live in the suburban communities surrounding the city, and have even visited their homes, which are, in fact, in very nice housing complexes and are quite comfortable.

But, the city itself, the downtown area, and the direct vicinity of HSBC Arena, is awful.

There is simply nothing to do there. Between Tim Panaccio and myself, there is hardly an NHL city that we travel to that we don’t find at least one (if not more) happening, post-game hot spot to throw down a few cold ones (well, I do, he goes for the vino) and discuss just how awful the Flyers are playing.

this guy is a twit and has to whine about everything... stick to whining about your local franchise and not ours thank you very much. I dont even live in Buffalo and i can find places to party in walking distance.

Since when do people from Philly ever have something positive to say about any other city, team or fans. From head to toe that city is the biggest bunch of classless people ever compiled. Even Boston fans are better, not by much though...

Whose getting riled up? I am just saying I could care less about what is said by someone in Philly.

I didn't read one thing in that article that wasn't true.

On their merits alone, the three Sabres are good enough to make the team, but not as starters.

But of course, Philly's own team is a pathetic embarrassment, so I guess they need something else to write about.

Did you read the part where he bashed the city for no reason? I am not talking about the starters or no starters.

I used to be downtown alot, and unless something has drastically changed since then, it is kinda dead on non-game nights

I consider that getting riled up. I just don't understand why.

Seriously, though. It's not that what he said didn't bother me, but it's just a blog - why bother getting so worked up over one stupid opinion?

Maybe if we started had more gun fire like they do in Philly, he wouldn't considered it so quiet.

I hate to burst bubbles but as far downtown goes, he is right on. There is nothing to do there. One bar that is packed with nothing else within twnet miles. If only city hall were as resiliant and talented as the hockey team. Instead, the best anyone might see is a fish store and a casino nobody wants. There is a reason why there are at least 5,000 Sabre fans at every road game and its not becasue they are getting on busses from Buffalo and traveling. Its because we have had enough of no progress at the expense of higher taxes. I know everyone doesnt want to hear that but until you get rid of the Abbot and Costello routine in City Hall, you have to endure this kind of bashing!

Irish Times and Washington Square usually have decent pre and post game crowds, as does the Brew Pub and Cobblestone.

wow, took the words straight outta my mouth brosif...

i travel the country for work, and have been to philly 10-15 times, both for work and to visit friends... i can't find a ****tier city in the US, other than maybe New Orleans.

Great story. I agree that hardly anyone outside of Buffalo wants to see their players starting. They certainly didn't give the NHL much to market. What is the NHL going to say as it tries to draw in casual fans?

Don't they lead the NHL in merchandise sales? Typical Philly ****** failing to get his "facts" straight

This is much ado about nothing anyway. The starters of a hockey game mean nothing.

you know this guy is right

the cobblestone is close to the arena but thats ONE bar thats next to the general mills plant that makes the surrounding area around the bar smell like cereal when the wind is blowing right

pearl street is big but u have to walk past an empty arena, dirt parking lots, and under highway ramps to get there

and the chippewa district is on the other end of a dead downtown, if i was a visitor i wouldnt walk much further than pearl street because there is absolutely NOTHING going on in between there and chippewa

dont blame this on sabres fans though, blame this on the totally incompetent and ******ed political officials Buffalo residents are oh so good at re-electing into office for the past 50 years making this city half the size now than what it was 50 yrs ago...

Buffalo is a dying city, there is no doubt about it. It hit it's peak 50-100 years ago and has been slowly dying ever since. The only thing that the residents of the area have left to cling on to are the Sabres (who almost left 3 years ago), and the Bills (who may end up leaving yet) (according to mcgahee: toronto :( )

If one or both of these franchises leave, Buffalo will no longer ever be considered a major city and will fall into the ranks of other upstate cities such as Rochester and Syracuse.

This is the Sabres year. There not gonna be this good again for possibly many more years into the future. Fans are going to be talking about the 06-07 Sabres for years to come and we will remember how we were once the best team in hockey. The voting of fans to propel their players who likely aren't deserving into the starting line up should speak loads about this cities dedications to its team and it should be commended and not ridiculed.

By the way this guy is gonna by on WGR550 tomorrow (thursday) morning in the 8am hour with Howard Simon. Im gonna try to call in and say what i said now.

I wonder if this jackass still thinks Briere isn't "marketable"? Maybe we should give him the good old "Buffalo fans flood the email box" routine?

He's got 5 points so far tonight... sadly, though, I see them giving the MVP to Crosby. I saw him skate up and down the ice a couple times, he even made a pass once. Quite simply - he is amazing. He is def the next "Gretzky". Also, the commercial with him as a young kid is so touching, they should just clone him and make an entire league out of Sidney Crosby Clones.

Defeatist bull**** thinking like this will be the reason Buffalo falls.

We've got our problems but it's not nearly as bad as you're making it out to be.
