and what about Dick Lebeau? Mike Tomlin was a DC in Minny and I doubt would keep Lebeau

I heard they contacted Tomlin and he said he has not been hired as the Steelers head coach. Espn was reporting this earlier and then pulled the report.

Here it is:


"There's nothing to that story on the wire," Mr. Rooney said of the account that appeared earlier today on SI.com.
Other sources, most unwilling to go on the record, also denied there was any truth to the story. Mr. Tomlin, the defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, denied it publicly. "It is untrue," Mr. Tomlin told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. "I have no idea where it's coming from. I have not talked to the Rooneys today."

the SI writer was just on the phone on the nightly news here in pgh. he strongly stands by his story. he said the reason everyone is denying the report is that the steelers have not officially offered the job to Tomlin, but he is the one they have decided on.

I guess the Steelers needed to clear it with the World Sports Leader.

Russ Grimm has been offered and has accepted the Steelers' head coaching position, a source in Pittsburgh confirmed late Saturday.

Grimm, 47, succeeds Bill Cowher, who coached the Steelers for 15 seasons before resigning Jan. 5. The hiring of Grimm will be announced Monday at a news conference.
ESPN and SI.com, Sports Illustrated's Web site, reported yesterday that Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin had been chosen to replace Cowher. An NFL source confirmed yesterday that Tomlin had not heard from the Steelers and no contract negotiations had taken place.

It's safe to say that they will have a 1st time HC though. They won't go with someone who has prior experience.

I just saw something on the nightly sports here in pgh and they said that the Steelers did in fact offer the job to Grimm but then later they called him to tell him that they changed their mind and decided to go in a different direction. no link, just what I saw on tv.
