When installed 13 years ago, the Ralph Wilson Stadium JumboTron was called the biggest in America, a 1,300-square-foot screen so dominating that coach Marv Levy found that it distracted his Bills when flashing highlights from games across the country.

This summer, the Bills will install a new screen twice as large - a high-definition display more sophisticated than the one that will grace Sunday's Super Bowl in Miami.

In addition, crews will ring the stadium with a new electronic "ribbon board" that can carry messages as dazzling as the ribbon board in HSBC Arena.

I rather use the $5.2 million dollars towards a signing bonus for Clements.

It is tax payer money. We don't pay for salaries.

I'm in a good mood today. If Clements walks and we get no notable upgrades on Defense in FA I'll be the first to say you were right!!

It's still $5.2 million Ralph Wilson doesn't have to spend on the stadium that he can use to spend on something else.

With all the cap room other teams have I doubt there will be any notable upgrades anywhere on the team.

Oh no! We can't have any sort of multimedia experience at the ralph! the "old timers" just want a stadium to watch football in... nothing else! No music, no video, no fireworks... just football!

Tax-payers should be the last people paying for the upgrade. The Owner of the the stadium should be first to pay, then the Owner of the team and thirdly they should have a surcharge on the tickets to pay for the upgrade.

I bet if the Bills won the Super Bowl next year, the knot heads around here would still find something to ***** about.

This is good news. :bf1:

This screen is going to light the place up on our cold lonely late night games there.

If the new HD Screen and Ribbon Board spruce up the stadium, that's great. If they help sell tickets and therefore make the franchise more attractive to local ownership, even better.

Personally, I don't care that much about sound systems and video boards, because I'm basically at the Ralph to watch the action on the field. (I loved watching games at the old Rock Pile, where there were virtually no amentities.) But if the new gadgets enhance the experience of other fans, I'm all for it.

They better do something after raising ticket prices 20% after yet another losing season. Too bad we won't spend the money on players.

I loved the old stadium also. Remember the huge echo when they said something over the PA system ? Great memories.

Having seen the ribbon board at HSBC, I think it is pretty good but too much audio can drive one nuts. That's one of the reasons I started to dislike going to the Bandits games. They never :stfu: .

Good point about the Bandits...they don't ever STFU. :ill:

Since it's an HDTV, maybe they could throw on the DiscoveryHD channel if we're getting blown out! That's probably one of my favorite channels now.

Hopefully they'll actually show replays on it and maybe it will help Jauron finally figure out when to use a damn challenge.

I measured the new scoreboard that was published in the BN article and the red box on the diagram below will show you how long the new scoreboard will be. The scoreboard will extend from gate 6 to gate 4 I wonder if now they'll paint the 4 SB logo's 25, 26, 27 & 28 back on the scoreboard now that it's longer they had them on the old scoreboard before they painted it over and put up "Welcome to Ralph Wilson Stadium Home of the Buffalo Bills" The only thing bad about this is it will block the wind more

I believe the $$ used on the scoreboard is money from Erie County that has to be used for stadium upkeep and maintanance.

Well, I guess Erie County pays for it first since they own it. Now, guess where Erie county gets almost all of its funds?

hey MB, i'm in boston too, and the HDTV in the garden is niiiice. but just out of curiosity, how are you a sox, celtics, bruins, and a bills fan? it wouldn't be that hard to pick the one team in that list that didn't fit!

I guess I spaced out because I never heard this before. This is *great* news. It's the little things like this (and $5.2M in the grand scheme is little) that improve the customers' (i.e., fans') experience at the Ralph. And when the experience improves, more people will come. Granted, if the Bills were winning SBs they could play in the old Rockpile and be sold out, but let's be realistic. It's going to take a balance of winning and amenities to keep the fans coming.
