Giants | Pierce petitions Bears' Briggs to join club
Thu, 1 Feb 2007 07:58:35 -0800
John Mullin, of the Chicago Tribune, reports <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/26/nfl">New York Giants LB Antonio Pierce (http://www.kffl.com/player/1922/nfl) has spoke with Chicago Bears (http://www.kffl.com/team/11/nfl) LB Lance Briggs (http://www.kffl.com/player/6081/nfl) about joining the Giants (http://www.kffl.com/team/26/nfl) this offseason. Briggs, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March, is a friend and former college teammate with Pierce. "I talked to him about that," Briggs said, "I told him, 'If it doesn't work out in Chicago, maybe.'" There has been speculation the Bears (http://www.kffl.com/team/11/nfl) intend to use the franchise tag on Briggs, which would restrict his availability this offseason.

They have about 9 million for FA without any restructures!

well, the Giants want him and I'm sure the Bears will want to keep him, so we're already competing with two big- market teams that did better than us in 2006. That doesn't bode well.

Must be nice to be a team that goes after big names every season.

THere are about a dozen teams that are going to make a run at him..

Wilson is either pony'ing up franchise-setting signing bonus money for him, or there is no chance he's coming here; you can paint it anyway you want..

maybe he'd be worth it, maybe he wouldn't, but unless Ralph ponies up like he's never done before, it aint happening.

The Giants is the last team he will end up on. They are in worst Cap shape than most. Their center O'hara is up and I know they want to resign him. If they don't than bring him to Buffalo and move Fowler to RG.

More than likely Da Bears will franchise him but they may get a deal worked out before he becomes and FA.

I dont see how Chicago would NOT franchise him if it comes down to it..

Briggs and Urlacher are the Bears, plain and simple.. They aint letting him walk.

Probably true. The only thing that could possibly stop that is funding...how's their cap situation? They might want to consider putting an effort toward getting a real QB instead...
