Whilst the opening of free agency is still a month away, there have been a number of murmurings of players who have a high cap value who may get released.

Not every team is in as good a shape as we possibly are - I still think we need to save cash to extend our top youngsters - but taking into account what might happen, the following guys could find themselves looking for employment before easter.

How would we feel about adding:

Ken Lucas, CB. Carolina Panthers
Fred Smoot, CB Minnesota Vikings
Ryan Sims, DT, Kansas City Chiefs
Napolean Harris, MLB, Vikings - contract to be voided

I personally think Smoot is all mouth but if we cannot get a guy like Roderick Hood, then Lucas would be a good pickup to bring in

Napolean Harris has the size for the middle, and whilst I'm not sure if he's the best in coverage, surely this can be worked around

Can Sims play the 1-tackle? - at 26, 6ft4 and 315lbs, I say he is well worth a very long look

There's a rumour in D-town that the Lions are going to release Dre Bly.

Jamar Fletcher also is a FA ? Could have a Juaron connection.

Ken Lucas  Following the panthers, I can say that well...he gets torched a lot. IF anything he stays a panther but if they cut him, I sure as hell wouldn't pay too much for him

Bly has probably been one of the brightspots on the lions defense since he's been there. Of course, when you play for the lions everyone will think you had a bad year. I would definitely consider bly because of his experience with the system and his veteran leadership, if any.

I heard Ricky Manning Jr. is a FA but if possible I would go after Bly

by the way with the GM the Lions have we could probably get Bly for a 6th or even 7th rd pick if he isn't released

Renaldo Hill 2 33 16 21 0
Travis Daniels 1 -2 -2 -2 0
Jason Allen 1 7 7 7 0
Will Allen 1 11 11 11 0

Fletcher 3 122 40 88 1

I bet you do!

 You're not football smart if you think INTs = good CB. I remember when Deltha O'Neal had like 8 picks, and he just blows as CB.

i have no idea who levy is targeting but a CB and OL help would be a good start.i doubt that clements will be wearing a Bills uni because he will go on to "greener pastures" and i doubt the Bills will fork out the dough.

Wow...

Miami drafted Jamar Fletcher 1st overall in the 2001 draft. At 5-9, Miami took a risk on him because of his size but his leaping ability and playmaking ability was suppose to make up for this. Miami was going to have the best trio of CB's in the league with Madison, Surtain and Fletcher. He turned out to be **** in a long line of Wanny drafted ****. Traded to San Diego in 2004 along with I believe a 6th round pick to acquire David Boston.

if that is true about dre bly, i would go after him in a heartbeat.

i honestly cant imagine what in gods name would provoke the lions to release bly.. that just seems insane.. the guy is a GREAT cornerback. he is a top 10 cb in the league for sure, possibly a top 5 guy. he would be awesome for us.

No

I seem to remember Ted Washington was a flop before he came to Buffalo.
Gerard Warren had done nothing to shout about before going to Denver

Isn't it about time we took again a player who has flopped in his first home and have a look at him. He may have been over valued as a no6, but he's still young and it may well be that Buffalo, our team, our system may focus him and turn him into a decent player.

Or do we spend a draft pick here?

I'm amazed of those fans that are reluctant to give players second chances. The top soccer, rugby, football players over this side of the Atlantic often failed with their first teams - and the coaches that picked them up are now hailed as genius.

I would like to give anyone with the physical talent at least the chance to help this team

Because we seem to be doing two things at the moment

1) What to spend a Day1 pick on a totally unproven player
2) Someone the wrong side of 30 with nothing left in the tank

or we can bring in someone who is better than one of our players, is still young enough to have upside/potential ....

I can see how that can be joking
