Tom Kowalksi, of MLive.com, reports the Detroit Lions are hoping to trade down in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft. The Lions currently hold the No. 2 overall selection in the draft.
That would land us Calvin Johnson most likely.
What would it take? Is it worth it?
I dont but into the trade down for boatloads of backups theory. Especially since we MAY (note I say MAY) be shying away from signing any big name guys. That leaves you with the draft. Well, that means you need your upgrades to current players to come from the draft. If you want to win sooner rather than later, you want players that can help day one.
Calvin Johnson is a day one stud who would give us one of the best pass attacks in the league, IMO. Run and stop the run, yes, I agree. But were not drafting a OL or maybe even DL in round one, look where we are, who we have as starters, and it doesnt make sense. RB? maybe, Lynch could be there at 12, but if his hype keeps going up, he may get drafted earlier.
So if you want a day one, impact type player, Calvin Johnson may be the best prospect of the draft.
Some would say Joe Thomas. Hes a LT, we have a franchise LT already, that would be silly.
