So if were draft only, we better think big!

Lions are looking to trade out of #2 pick.

Lions | Team would like to trade down in NFL Draft
    Sun, 18 Feb 2007 09:59:01 -0800
Tom Kowalksi, of MLive.com, reports the Detroit Lions are hoping to trade down in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft. The Lions currently hold the No. 2 overall selection in the draft.

That would land us Calvin Johnson most likely.

What would it take? Is it worth it?

I dont but into the trade down for boatloads of backups theory. Especially since we MAY (note I say MAY) be shying away from signing any big name guys. That leaves you with the draft. Well, that means you need your upgrades to current players to come from the draft. If you want to win sooner rather than later, you want players that can help day one.

Calvin Johnson is a day one stud who would give us one of the best pass attacks in the league, IMO. Run and stop the run, yes, I agree. But were not drafting a OL or maybe even DL in round one, look where we are, who we have as starters, and it doesnt make sense. RB? maybe, Lynch could be there at 12, but if his hype keeps going up, he may get drafted earlier.

So if you want a day one, impact type player, Calvin Johnson may be the best prospect of the draft.

Some would say Joe Thomas. Hes a LT, we have a franchise LT already, that would be silly.

It would take our whole draft to get up to #2.

Draft only? When did Marv say that?
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

We won't trade up to 2...The number 2 pick would mean BIG signing bonus, big contract, goes against the cash to cap theory completely.

And it would mean we're drafting a skill franchise cornerstone type.

                Pipe dream.

Trading down in the draft is the hottest trend. There is no way in hell the Bills should trade up for CJ. This isn't Madden or fantasy football people.

But you do buy into trading many of our picks away to draft a player who isn't even at a need position? Real bright... Especially after you are stating that we need to fill all of our holes since we aren't making any free agent signings...

Look at any of the draft pick value charts. They clearly show that we would have to give up every pick we have, and then some, to get him. Here's one:

Even if there is some disparity from team to team, there is no way they are going to make that deal.

Too many other needs. If you did go up to No. 2, the pick would have to be someone of Alan Branch's ilk.

I'd rather stay at 12 and take Willis.

If we move up to 2, we have to take CJ, no questions asked.

However it doesnt make any sense, and its just not a good move.

Did anybody listen to the press conference or the reports afterwards. This will never, ever, happen. We are not trading up so we can give a WR #2 money especially in light of "cheap gate".

Marv, already said he liked the receiving corps. We are going OL and Defense 100% for sure. Stop the insanity!!!!!!!!!!!!
