BEREA, Ohio -- LeCharles Bentley (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5930) will likely undergo more surgery on a serious knee injury that cost him last season, is jeopardizing another and might end his NFL career.

Cleveland Browns (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=cle) general manager Phil Savage said Bentley is considering another operation to repair the left patellar tendon he tore on the first full-contact play of training camp last summer.

"If he does elect to have the surgery, then obviously he won't be here for 2007 as an active player," said Savage, adding "it's more likely he will have surgery."

A two-time Pro Bowl selection in New Orleans, Bentley signed a six-year, $36 million free agent contract in March to play for the Browns, his hometown team. But he had his first season in Cleveland end freakishly.

I think it's the curse of the Browns.

I think everyone wanted to sign him, he was a great center in NO.

What a shame, I hope he pulls through alright.

Funny how that works. He was replaced by Cleveland's old center....I think.

Yup Jeff Faine is the starter in NO. Go figure.

New Orleans OL had an amazing year, Brown's move to LT really was a difference maker. Up until the last few games of the season (maybe the whole season I dont know) Brees was the least sacked QB in football.

Define irony. Bills fans saying another team is cursed.

LeCharles' case shows that bad things happen to good people. He's a character player, and I hate to see this kind of thing happen. Best of luck to him.

I dunno. The Browns just seem to have really bad luck with just about everything they do recently.

It's kind of ironic. The Browns were my favorite team growing up in the 50s, before the Bills came to town.

I'm not sure if I'll ever live long enough to see either of them win a Super Bowl.

Well the Ravens did win a Super Bowl. They were sorta the Browns.

Well I dont know if you'll live to see a Bills super bowl win.. But at the rate their going I'll bet that Ralph and Marv won't.

168 years between them and they are working on what is becoming an increasingly obvious rebuilding plan.

* Don't target many free agents that will cost more than market starter money.
* Say your top priority is to resign your own and then let what is EASILY your two best FA's walk.
* Do sign most of your mid-level guys back. You know guys like Gandy and Kelsay, the absolute epitomy of why this organization has been mired in mediocrity for the better part of the decade.
* Sign a couple of jackoff free agent backups from other teams, make them starters on yours and as only BUffalo could only do, overpay bums while not bidding on proven starters.
* Keep drafting more and more rookies and either start them or have them play significant minutes as a rookie.

Down the line this team just may build themselves into a winner. But Ralph is 87 and marv is 81. How many more years do you think they'll be doing this job?

If the plan is to let veterans walk if they get expensive (Clements) and replace them with draft picks and bargain basement FA's, you're looking at 2-3 more years minimum before this team can legitimately contend for a Super Bowl, and thats ONLY IF we continue to draft GREAT.

I'm 22 so I think I'll get to see it. Assuming I live for a little while longer.

Yeah, but they just didn't seem like the Browns. Maybe all that purple, and that horrible looking crow, had something to do with it.

That's really really sad. He said it was his dream to play for the Browns because that's where he grew up. I really hope he can come back, he is a hell of a guy, doesn't get in trouble, doesn't say stupid crap. Just plays football.

This is just further proof that it benefits these athletes to get their college degree before they enter the NFL.
