The Buffalo Sabres are going local for their latest call-up.

St. Francis product Patrick Kaleta has been called up to replace Daniel Paille as the Buffalo Sabres prepare for life without another player.

Paille broke his finger in Tuesday's night 6-3 win over Philadelphia and will miss "weeks," according to Lindy Ruff. Paille has two goals and six assists in 23 games for the parent club in 2006-07, good for a plus-8 rating.

Kaleta, a sixth round draft pick in 2004, has 10 points and 87 penalty minutes with the Rochester Americans this season. He played his junior hockey in Peterborough of the OHL, where he compiled 147 points and 460 penalty minutes in four seasons. In the 2006 OHL playoffs, Kaleta posted 18 points on the way to the Memorial Cup.

I can't wait to see how he does in <?xml:namespace prefix = st2 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st2:City w:st="on"><st2:place w:st="on">Buffalo</st2:place></st2:City>. Offensively, he's not ready for the NHL (3 goals in 41 AHL games), but he may still be a contributor. He's a big, big hitter whose specialty is getting the other team to take stupid penalties. Last Friday he suckered <st2:State w:st="on">Manitoba</st2:State> into commiting a penalty that led to <st2:place w:st="on"><st2:City w:st="on">Rochester</st2:City></st2:place>'s first goal. Then he literally scared the puck right out of one of the Moose players… and <st2:PersonName w:st="on"><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas:contacts" /><st1:GivenName w:st="on">Mark</st1:GivenName> <st1:Sn w:st="on">Mancari</st1:Sn></st2:PersonName> promptly picked up the puck and scored the second goal. He doesn't fight much - he's more likely to agitate the other guy into taking a swing, then skating away and earning a power play. When he does fight, he does fine, though… He's very exciting to watch.

He's from Angola!

 he grew up watching the Buffalo Sabres and went to St. Francis High School he's the nicest kid you would meet off the ice but on it he'll check you to death! My cousin when he was a Jr for Williamsville East, Kaleta was a Sr. for St. Francis and my cousin said that he (Kaleta) will check you everytime you have the puck and makes the other team take penalties my cousin said that he makes the other team look foolish out there. Kind of what Barnaby did when he was here.

Those were some hard hits, but he sure looked like he left his feet on every one of those.

Yeah, Peca did that alot too. But he's only 5-11 the shorter guys that hit tend lift off the ground after contact.
