Defense Could Be A Big Offseason Focus Again

Jauron is still holding out hope that the Bills will be able to bring one or two of their top three defensive free agents back into the fold for 2007.

"We will pursue our people and stay in the hunt, and we will also be in the market," he said.

Buffalo's head coach is well aware that losing any one of his big three defensive free agents would be difficult.

"The loss of those players would definitely hurt us," Jauron said. "As any team that loses a veteran free agent knows it's not an easy thing. Then you're looking at every available source to fill those vacant spots and that's free agency and the draft. It all kind of fits together and from a coach's point of view it's not an ideal world. You'd like to build your team and keep it together as long as you could. For the players the system is better for them, but it'll be a blow to lose any of our free agents."

If somehow Clements, Fletcher and Kelsay all depart via free agency, Jauron remains confident that the Bills will be a player in free agency prior to the draft.

"This team will be competitive in the market," he said. "We'll do everything we can to make our football team better. We have people we are very interested in."

    That's good to hear..

Maybe the Bills should start having DIck do the "state of the Bills" press conference.. In all due respect to Marv, at least Jauron sounds like he knows what he's talking about makes things more clear.

Eh, Marv's old. Sometimes older people tend to ramble on and not make much sense. Yeah, I'm going with that. It makes me feel a little bit better.

thang is, i dont understand why defense would be the one under the microscope...we ranked #29 overall in offense....you'd think that the Oline and what not would be more under the microscope...but when u got so many leaks, you gotta pick and choose

Maybe we can draft and start another collage of 5th, 6th and 7th round picks again this year.

I still havent decided yet if all those rookie starters were a testament to Modrak's (notice I dont say Marv) drafting ability, or how ****ty this roster really was.

Except, of course, spending all of our league-allotted cap space.

Defense Could Be A Big Off-Season Focus Again

Last year Bills head coach Dick Jauron and his staff were in need of replacements on defense. After releasing Sam Adams, Lawyer Milloy and later Jeff Posey veteran holes had to be filled on that side of the ball. Buffalo, for the first time in team history used their first five draft picks last April on defense and used two of those players to fill the vacated starting roles in Kyle Williams and Donte Whitner.

With the prospect of possibly losing Nate Clements, London Fletcher and Chris Kelsay to free agency next month head coach Dick Jauron doesn't deny that defense could again be a focus come the end of April.

"I think it could be," said Jauron. "The draft is a ways away. There's a lot of time between now and that point where we'll be aligning our board while keeping an eye on our team. We're constantly evaluating and then as we get to know the draft better and better and how we think it will go. We'll certainly know that a lot better as we get close to (the draft). Obviously on draft day we'll have a definite feel for where we're going. But it could be that way."

Jauron is still holding out hope that the Bills will be able to bring one or two of their top three defensive free agents back into the fold for 2007.

"We will pursue our people and stay in the hunt, and we will also be in the market," he said.

It's good to see him say that there are people we are very interested in and that they will do everything they can to make the team better.

Marv isn't just going to sit on his ass all offseason. If he thinks the Bills have a chance to sign someone who can help them out, he will try. Even though we may not here about it, it doesn't mean he isn't doing anything,
