    Corey Dillon Retires

Corey Dillon is saying he will retire.
There was a good chance Dillon was going to be asked to take a paycut or be released, but it never got that far. Dillon left the door slightly open for possibly returning to another team in the future, but said, "I don’t need to play." Dillon was one of the fiercest runners in the NFL between 1997-2002 in Cincinnati, but ran for a career high 1,635 yards during New England's 2004 Super Bowl run. 14th in league history in rushing yards, he has an outside shot at the Hall of Fame. Laurence Maroney will take over New England's primary running back duties. Feb. 23 - 12:01 am et

While in this story Dillon himself says he is retiring, in this story his agent says he would want to play elsewhere.

Either way it looks like he will ask for, and be granted, his release before March 2. His 2007 cap hit is $4.4M, so maybe he realizes he is a potential cap casualty and figures to be proactive.

Either way, I wish Corey luck. He had a great year in 2004, and was a solid performer for the Pats the last 3 years.

He may have been good at one time, but he runs like Sam Adams now.

He hasn't filed any retirement papers with the NFL so don't count him out somewhere else. He would be a great #2 back just about anywhere.

He really slowed down. I didn't understand that. But NE has a more than suitable replacement in Maroney. That guy scares me.

He may have slowed down but he still ran all over us every time we played them.
