A-Train is an excellent backup and relatively cheap. I don't understand why we haven't locked him up until now and are apparently going to let him test FA???
Why haven't we locked up A-Train?

I think the A-train realizes that he showed he still can produce in this league. He feels he can test the FA waters a little and see what he can get. Some team, who's desperate at RB might give him a shot at starting...Jets, Texans to name a couple.

He was one of the rare bright spots in our running game. Like FunTimes said, he probably wants to test the FA to see if he can get a shot at starting. If he can't find anything decent, he'll most likely resign.

Look..I dont expect the world in FA.. I just expect and I hope most ticket-buying fans demand that Wilson makes a honest effort to improve this team rather just trying to be somewhat "competitive"

Re: Why haven't we locked up A-Train?
semi-conspiracy theory: having A-train locked up decreases McGahee's value to us, ie, if we're trying to deal him, teams may try to give up less. Without A-Train, McGahee's the only RB on our roster who can start- any team interested in getting him would have to consider his value to the Bills when making an offer.
I'm not saying the Bills are trying to deal McGahee, but if they are, not having A-Train under contract helps their bargaining position.

Re: Why haven't we locked up A-Train?
Nobody wants to trade for McGahee..
For starters, he's still a mystery running back..he's a superstar name who's been a very average running back.
And for another, he's in the last year of a deal, his agent is an ******* and he'll demand franchise running back money. No team is going to trade for a player unless they can lock him up long term, and I dont see any team wanting to do that at this point.
Teams do their homework (apparently except the Bills).. He'll be a free agent next year and even if he breaks out next year, we'll either have to tag him (which will give him average salary of the top five backs) or he'll walk, because he obviously doesnt want to be here. And he sure as hell aint worth Top 5 money I dont care if he runs for 1700 yards this year.
