He decided to run the 40 at the last minute and borrowed a pair of running shoes. The result: 4.31 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anthony Gonzalez did a nice job too. 4.44 with a 38 inch vertical and we know he has good hands and is smart

Calvin Johnson impresses with a 4.35 40-time

Calvin Johnson (http://www.footballsfuture.com/2007/prospects/calvin_johnson.html) lived up to expectations and blazed an official 4.35 40-yard dash at today's combine. An amazing time for someone 6'5" and 239 pounds.

ESPN reported 4.31 and 4.35. But at this point it's still unbelievable for a guy this big. Now I offcially want him.

He'll be gone long before our pick. And I'd be extremely PO'd if we moved up to draft another WR.

Damn man.

6'5" and a 4.3 forty.

That's sick.

You could basically just throw it up for grabs with this guy.

If you saw him run, you could tell he was actually a bit slow of the block. I could see him running in the 4.2s easily. Also, Peterson looked like an absolute beast. He is one of the most impressive physical specimens I have ever seen. Too bad he has the injury problem.

Lets not get carried away. 4.2 easily? He is the best WR I've ever seen to come out of college. This is 1 of the most impressive drafts I've seen in a while. Teams that have alot of picks on day 1 should be very happy for the next few years. The draft is very strong at the top 32 and is also very deep. All this talent and a guy like Russell is going to be the #1 pick? Raiders crack me up.

He ran a 4.35 and I said he could improve it to the 4.2s (meaning 4.20-4.29). If he runs it again, I'll bet you 500 ZB he comes in under 4.3.

He borrowed shoes. The guys on NFL Network said he got out slow. I think he could do 4.2.

he's the next Terrell Owens, with better hands and less attitude..

tell ya what, it won't happen--but I'm the Raiders Im unloading Moss and Im drafting Calvin Johnson number one. This dude is going to be sick. They are going to suck with or without Russell, so draft the best player in the class, and that is clearly Johnson.

He's going to last until #4 and Gruden is going to jump all over him... Which makes me think, if Cleveland picks Peterson at #3 there is a now a STRONG chance that Brady Quinn drops to either 8 for Houston or even 9 for Miami.

the raiders are trying to trade moss right now to draft this dude. FSR is reporting it.

Starting slow is the normal for tall receivers like that. They make up for it with the long strides. Only problem being pro-day times are usually inflated towards making the guys look good.

Plays like Moss or TO and carries himself with class like Harrison. Nice package

the best overall pick but won't go until 4...and then he'll be lost in TB with nobody to throw him the ball.

I would love to see the Fins grab Gonzo in the 2nd:

Anthony Gonzalez/WR/Ohio State: Gonzalez ran well, twice breaking the 4.4-second barrier, then looked spectacular catching the ball. Running crisp routes he displayed soft, natural hands, diving around the field to catch everything in sight. As a result Gonzalez has jumped into the initial 60 picks.

Sold. If there are no more posted times, then its a push. If he runs and we have conlicting reports, then its a push. But if he runs and its pretty clear that he broke 4.3 (either way), before the draft, then we have a winner. Sound good?

Not that it really matters, but I guess Jauron was mistaken:

THE MYTH OF THE SHOES
Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson cleared up the myth about the shoes he used to run the 40-yard dash in sprinter styled 4.35 seconds at the NFL scouting combine this month.
Johnson had not planned to run, but at the last minute he changed his mind. He got some shoes from East Carolina quarterback James Pinkney.
NFL types were impressed, and Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron told reporters about Johnson running in borrowed shoes.
Actually, the shoes were Johnson's and he'd let Pinkney use them.
"I guess everybody saw me getting them back and thought I was borrowing them," Johnson said.
