If we add salary using Connolly's cap space, NHL ruled that Tim won't be able to play the first round of the playoffs. Per Paul Hamilton's conversation with Darcy Regier today.

I say do

Yes, why it's taken so long to shut down a guy who's missed the entire year doesn't make any sense. Cut your losses and shelve him for the year. We'd be better off spending the money on a player who's been playing all year and is in shape. Connolly will not be at the top of his game when he returns, so why depend on him as your "big" addition?

Hasn't Connolly been on IR all along, meaning his salary hasn't counted against the cap?

Yep, once he returns the sabres have 2.9 million in open space waiting for him.

If playoffs started today the Sabres would play the Islanders with home ice. We beat them like a drum without timmY, just like most of the teams in the bottom of the league. The NHL did the sabres a favor today, we know what we can get away with now i think darcy should use it.

Here's the deal-

You have to be off the roster 10 games before the club can take the salary off the cap.

However- the Sabres have to make space for the 7-8 guys they called up. Some of Connelly's cap space has been taken up by all the call ups.

There will be more room once the other injured players accure 10 games missing from the roster- unless you move them straight to IR. Max, Gaustad, Kotalik - if/when they hit 10 games they also can have their salary cleared

If he doesn't return until the playoffs, it doesn't matter. There is no cap in the playoffs.

No cap in the playoffs, but the catch is he can't play the first round.
