Veteran RB's In No Position To Ask For Big Bucks

The official source for NFL news, video highlights, fantasy football, game-day coverage, schedules, stats, scores and more.

(Feb. 26, 2007) -- A word of advice to the veteran running backs entering free agency and those veterans stalled in negotiations: There's a reason the franchise-tag price for running backs is less than offensive linemen, wide receivers and quarterbacks.

Teams are reluctant to pay extraordinary money to running backs anymore. The Colts and the Bears reached the Super Bowl with a tandem approach at running back, so it is not a good time to look for a big payday.

Ahman Green is over 30 with an injury history, but is still a fine player. But at what price and in what situation?

Willis McGahee wants out of Buffalo, but how much would a team be willing to give up for him after getting a good look at the draft pool?
