Some teams are re-signing players, preventing them from hitting the free-agent market. But some teams are adding to it.
After being further diluted in previous days, the free-agent market was slightly replenished when teams began releasing players rather than paying them roster bonuses or carrying their bloated 2007 base salaries.
It used to be that teams blamed the salary cap for the massive cuts they instituted right before free agency. But the fact that so many players now are being released, at a time when so many teams have a record amount of salary-cap room, just proves that teams are only willing to pay for production. If a player doesn't produce, he doesn't get paid.
