    Villarrial disease and Bowen cut...

With the opening of the free agent market hours away, the Bills released veteran offensive lineman Chris Villarrial and safety Matt Bowen Thursday. Villarrial was set to enter the final year of a four-year contract with the Bills that he signed back in the 2004 offseason. The offensive lineman was the starting right guard for the club as soon as he arrived in Buffalo, but the past two seasons Villarrial had trouble staying healthy as injuries began to catch up with the 11-year veteran.

Good, now we have more money to spend on worthwhile replacements.

I love both moves.. Last thing we need is an injured-prone bum even battling for the RG position.

As for Bowen, that will go down as a great FA move in Marv Levy history..

ON the plus side, at least Marv isn't too stubborn to see his mistake and corrected it.

Good riddance - both were useless anyway.

Can't disagree with getting rid of those two.

What an F'n waste Bowen was. To this day I still think the Bills cut the wrong Safety last season. Should have held onto Vincent and released Bowen last year.

Excellent moves! It's nice to see that Marv is willing to own up to his mistakes. That's something that TD never did.

Villarial wasn't Marv's mistake to begin with.. Also, I wouldn't consider Bowen a bad signing, he filled his role as an insurance policy quite well, imo.

I think releasing Villreal is a sure sign that Buffalo's front office is definitly seeking interior line help.

Yep. He made a signing of a guy that never panned out.

                            Kinda like every GM.

Now they might need some safety depth. I would not be surprised to see them sign a veteran safety.

Who says Bowen was a mistake? He got injured but he also served his purpose, which was a veteran stop-gap while Whitner learned the position. Whitner obviously showed he's the best SS on the roster, so they figured there's no point in keeping Bowen around. You can get a younger veteran, draft a guy, or use someone else on the roster as the SS backup.
