The Buffalo Sabres (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/clubhouse?team=buf) have ridden their high-powered offense to the best record in the Eastern Conference, but injuries to two of their top scorers motivated the team to bolster its lineup before Tuesday's trade deadline.
Trying to remain in first place in the East, Buffalo added forward Dainius Zubrus (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=1485), and he's scheduled to make his Sabres debut Friday in a home matchup with the Montreal Canadiens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/clubhouse?team=mon).
The Sabres (42-16-5) are trying to overcome costly injuries to Chris Drury (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=1761) and Maxim Afinogenov (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=1906). Co-captain Drury, who has 33 goals and 24 assists, suffered a concussion Feb. 22 and will miss at least two more games. Afinogenov, with 23 goals and 34 assists, will be out another four weeks after breaking his left wrist.
Looking to strengthen an offense that has scored a league-leading 240 goals, Buffalo traded rookie forward Jiri Novotny (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=2858) and a first-round pick to Washington for Zubrus and prospect defenseman Timo Helbling (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=2504) on Tuesday.

Two boys are playing hockey on a pond in a park in Buffalo, when one is attacked by a rabid Rottweiler. Thinking quickly, the other boy takes his stick, wedges it down the dogs collar and twists, breaking the dogs neck. A Buffalo News reporter who was strolling by sees the incident, and rushes over to interview the boy. "Young Sabres Fan Saves Friend From Vicious Animal," he starts writing in his notebook. "But I’m not a Sabres fan," the little hero replied. "Sorry, since we are in Buffalo, I just assumed you were." said the reporter and starts again. "Little Bills Fan Rescues Friend From Horrific Attack" he continued writing in his notebook. "I’m not a Bills fan either," the boy said. "I assumed everyone in Buffalo was either a Sabres or Bills fan."What team do you root for?" the reporter asked. "I’m a Montreal Canadiens fan." the child said. The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook and writes, "Little French Bastard from Montreal Kills Beloved Family Pet. "

they really have to find a way to get rid of the fighting and make the hitting better.

I love Kaleta's energy and physicality, but he's at the point where he goes out of his way to make hits and forgets that there is a game going on around him sometimes. I'd rather he not make a dumb mistake at some point because he was too busy focusing on hitting somebody.

The first 5 minutes ruled by the way, could have easily been 4-0. Let's hope they pick it back up in the 2nd.

Oh, and I love Kaleta... he goes for the hit every time, you are right... but it seemed that the other team was starting to get more physical and Kaleta went out there and just put an end to it for a while.

Damn, you guys see the highlight from Toronto and New Jersey with the Devils Cam Jansen doing his best Chris Neil impression? They really need to do something about this in the NHL, it's getting out of hand.

You had so much to say trade deadline day....

You had so much to say trade deadline day....

I was just commenting... no harm in that was there?

As for last night and the habs in general.

I'm severely disappointed in the players and management of this team. When things started going wrong, they sat on their hands and let it happen. Right up to last night by not pulling Abby after 7 goals. He's simply horrible... always on his knees and out of position.

Signing Samsonov was a mistake... everyone knew what he is.

If you thought you could make the playoffs, a goalie at the deadline was a must.... but they didnt' pull the trigger.

On the flip side, if you aren't a contender (whihc we clearly aren't) they WHY didn't Gainey trade Souray at the deadline? witht he "rental" prices as high as thye were he could have fetched as much as Forsberg probably. Now we are going to lose him for NOTHING.

It's terribly frustrating.

Anyway, lots of heart shown by the Sabres to not get down everytime the Habs came back and amde it close.

The only thing that would worry me is how good is Miller REALLY? He lets in some soft ones, but the Sabres are such a high scoring team it usually doens't matter, but will he be able to steal tight games in the playoffs? Guess we'll find out. ;)

Oh, Souray's slash WAS uncalled for. the game was over, let it go. clearly he was frustrated that the team is going nowhere, but you can't take a whack at someone over that. He should get a fine, no suspension, but only because Vanek wasn't hurt.

Take the frustration out on your team mates, try to wake them up.
