Numbers for Spikes

It means that most of the hit comes upfront now, when we can handle it, and leaves a lot of room in two or three years when we will really need it. Smart move by TD.

2004: $4.4 million

2005: $5.4 million

Those numbers include salary and bonuses, but could be higher depending on incentives

2006-2008: unknown salaries

He has a $9 million signing bonus and a $1.5 million option payment in 2004 for basically a $10.5 million two-tiered signing bonus

Some... I think Winfield is about the only one of consequence though.

yeah only Winfield is UFA, but we will have players like Travis Henry and Aaron Schobel coming up soon as well. No way either player makes it to FA after 2004 season. Need to lock up the young players early. I don't see TD being as active this time next year except to address primarily our own FAs

So Clump in your opinion, will this contract for Spikes be kinda of tieing our hands behind our back, or will it still leave us with flexibility in the next few years. It may be an elementry question, but Im only starting to learn the ins and outs of salary cap since coming on this board.
