PFT: McGahee gets 7 Yrs/$40.12M

We're told that the Ravens and running back Willis McGahee are very close to agreeing on a seven-year deal worth $40.12 million.

As we previously explained, McGahee will receive $7.5 million to sign, an initial option bonus of $6 million, and a second option bonus of $1.5 million. The salaries are $595,000 in 2007, $605,000 in 2008, $620,000 in 2009, $3.6 million in 2010, $6.0 million in 2011, $6.5 million in 2012, and $7.2 million in 2013.

Since McGahee was due to earn $2.155 million in 2007, the deal is essentially a six-year extension worth $37.965 million.

If the Ravens cut McGahee before the back-end salaries kick in, he will earn a total of $20.42 million over four years.

LIke I posted yesterday.. This was a DONE deal a couple of days ago..
It was ONLY a matter of Baltimore redoing his contract.
I bet this trade was completed by Mon morning at the latest.

BEfore everyone goes Homeristic on here with Willis' seemingly crazy deal.
NOw maybe we know firsthand how redskins fans felt when we gave Dockery $49 million and what their reaction was.
Hasn't been a probowl player, blahblahblah..
It's the same exact thing.

A change of scenery for both players is probably a good thing. both are considered soild if not spectacular players.

I like the Willis trade, Im not complaining at all. Im just saying before you blast Willis' contract, make sure you weren't one of the people firing at Skins fans for laughing at the 49 mill we dropped on Dock.

Ahh, yes. But, Dockery was a free agent. If we don't sign him to big money, he likely goes elsewhere where someone drops the kind of dough he's looking for.

McGahee was going to B-more whether he liked it or not. This is an extension to his contract and is postured on keeping McGahee off the market next year. The Ravens had to choose whether to get the extension done now, or let McGahee play out at least part of the year and then work on the extension later. Personally, I would have wanted to see how he fit in the offense and such before dropping this kind of dough on a contract extension.

Whom am I kidding, there will be that anyway.. and generally, your probably right.. But this was pretty easy to smell out.

As for Willis' deal, Wilson would be HIGH to give him that kind of money.. All I was saying is that REdskins fans generally thought the same thing about Dockery..
