UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- New York Islanders (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/clubhouse?team=nyi) forward Chris Simon (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=595) was suspended indefinitely by the NHL on Friday for his stick-swinging hit to the face of Rangers center Ryan Hollweg (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=3250).

Simon was given a match penalty for deliberate attempt to injure late in Thursday night's 2-1 loss to the Rangers. The length of the suspension won't be determined until after a disciplinary hearing. That hasn't been scheduled but is expected to take place next week, likely in Toronto.

"I feel bad for taking a penalty that led to us losing the game," said Simon. "I've always been known as a team guy, and I feel real bad about letting the team down."

He doesnt even apologize.. this guy is a complete joke.

a hearing? what is there to hear??

How gutless of a move. I know they have to go through a hearing but come on. How hard would it have been for bettmen to say "lifetime ban and if you don't like it sue me. I would think the NHLPA would whole heartedly be behind the band if it truly had the best interest of it's members in mind".

I haven't seen what happened but have heard about it all day. If it's that bad they should suspend him for 100 games and make the next stop out of the league. Additionally, they should give the team a perpetual penalty in that game where they are at least 5-4.
