- He is received $9M to sign, spread over 6 yeras at $1.5M per season.

- His base salary is to be $1M

- He will receive a $1.5M roster bonus when he initially signs.

Thus, his 2003 cap number is $4M ($1M base, $1.5M SB, $1.5M RB).

He will collect $18.2M in the 1st 3 years of the deal, if he makes the Pro Bowl once in those 3 season.

If that is his cap #, how much of what is left is actually used up since the cap only counts against the top 53? Who has the 53rd contract right now and what is it's value?

Rather unfortunately since the cap hit is relativley light this may be acceptable to the Bengals

I am not aware of any option, although the details are 2nd-hand and I am not saying they are complete.

As for the Bengals, I doubt they match. Marvin Lewis has said he wants guys who want to be there, and Spikes has made it pretty clear he wants out. Look for him to have a phone conversation with Spikes to discuss the deal, and if Spikes is clear he wants out then the Bengals will decline to match. I think it will come down Monday.

Buffalo News had a $9 million sb and $1.5 million option payment in 2004.
