If we hated Mcgahee why would we want Briggs?

By the definition here for why Willis had to go (I think he did) why would we consider Lance Briggs?

Basically Briggs is saying he wont play for the Bears again for the slight of being guaranteed $7.5 million for 1 year. This is a part of the negotiated agreement.

Isn't this, in a lot of ways, worse than Willis' agent saying he wants an extension?

It would seem to me Briggs is showinga me-first mentality and extremely poor character and wouldn't be a fit here.

That being said, he is a great player and would REALLY help the defense.

So the question is: Does character only matter if WE dont like the guy?

Briggs is a much better player.

Briggs commits to his team and produces on the field.

Briggs was never a trouble maker until the team franchised him when other teams were throwing money around like crazy, potentially costing him millions.

Contrast with McGahee- the Bills took a HUGE chance on him by drafting him after the injury and knowing he wouldn't be ready for at least a year. Then they traded Henry and made Willis the full-time starter. He repaid the team by working out in Miami, skipping team activities, putting in a lackluster effort and saying we should move to Toronto.

The Bills did everything they could for McGahee, whereas the Bears cost Briggs a huge payday. So I really don't think it's the same situation at all.

If Ralphy boy is cheap, so are the bears organization. How long did it take them to pay Lovie? Briggs knows he can blow out his knee with that franchise tag which is why he wants a contract. Problem is, with the new CBA , will he get a bigger contract than Urlacher? Will the bears allow that? I don't think so. This is why I think Briggs wants out.

Yes he would.. and no he's not.

Just like the bills.. Kelsay gets more than schobel but he aint worth it.. its the way it is- become a FA at the right time.

Do not lump Briggs in w/ McGahee. Briggs actually has class, and he's an elite player. The guy already came out and stated he loved the Bears' team and fans, but he hates the organization. McGahee basically backhanded his teammates upon leaving.

I don't think the Briggs situation is any different then Spikes situation with the Bengals. He wanted out, was very public about it, and expressed frustration when they placed the transition tag on him.

Briggs also has his coach's contract situation to be upset about. The way they treated Lovie is grounds for unhappiness.

And it's also not about the money. He dislikes the "Organization," and from what they did to Lovie, it's hard to think otherwise...

He turned down a 7 year, $33 Million dollar deal extension last year. It appeared he went for broke this year hoping to hit it rich like Clements did and now is threatening to sit out rather than play for Bears. He will probably do a Joey Galloway and start playing week 9 to force the Bears to oay another 20% to franchise him again. That is pretty high poker stakes in Chicago.
