How in the world can the Skins continue to dish out the dough. I'm expecting some big cuts in DC - and I'm not talking about taxes.

Here ya go Tatonka:

Redskins | Coles Next on the List? - from KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
March 9, 2003 20: 10 :16 PT The Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins are close to agreeing to a contract offer sheet with restricted free agent WR Laveranues Coles (Jets) according to NFL sources. If the team were to add Coles, it would cost them their first-round draft pick in this year’s draft. He’s probable to agree to a multi-year contract worth about $5 million per year with a signing bonus in excess of $10 million.

I just can't believe those numbers are correct. Coles is not worth those kinds of dollars.

Snyder is out of control and his mind! Coles is not worth that kind of money!

yeah washington picks like 13th right?

their fans are suprisingly happy with the 13th pick for compensation.. theganggreen.com.

If I'm the jets, I don't match and take the 13th pick. Use it on defense. There are plenty of WRs available in the draft.

His statistics last year were comparable to those of Price and the Redskins contend that Coles posted his numbers as the Jets "lead" receiver. Price, they emphasized privately as they worked feverishly on the Coles deal during the weekend, had the benefit of playing opposite Eric Moulds in Buffalo, and usually worked against single coverage.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1520968.html

so that is why they did not go after price.

this actually kind of pisses me off the more i think about it.. snyder is messing up everyone by offering the kid this much money.. and on top of that.. they will have 2 first round picks again.. /sigh.

Yeah - they could even trade up and get Charlie Rogers if they truly wanted too. Detroit would probably consider dropping to thirteenth.

The Jets will end up wasting their picks on positions where they dont need help and just get booed out of New York, or Should I say New Jersey, like they do every draft day

they are talking about boss bailey and kelly washington.

I'm not worried about the draft pick... the jets have a long history wasting top picks (like the patriots)... besides not many draft picks are difference makers in their first NFL year. This could be bad news down the road, but not bad for this season. The best scenario would be for the Jets to match Coles and tighten up their cap a bit.

Anything that takes away from Pennington's arsenal is fine with me.

(BTW: if this sounds similar to fins/pats/jets fans take on peerless that’s fine with me… I thought they had a point, it will affect out offense adversely… the difference is we would have lost him anyway, so he wouldn’t have been here next year no matter what, while the Jets were caught playing hardball with a player they should have wrapped up.

Boss Bailey? Don't they have a pile of money invested in Cowart? Why the hell would they need another weak side backer (any lunatic who suggests Boss can play the Sam or MLB is on something).

Washington? Ok, a fairly good pickup if they want to risk the neck injury. But they need a DT more than they need a LB.

Some mocks have the Jets taking Kenny Peterson at #22. He's the guy I hope Buffalo can and will get at #23.

"Coles IS worth Boston/Price money, and he can't be blamed for asking it.
89 Receptions
1264 Yards.
In 13 Games with Chad Pennington

If you assume similar play from Coles if Chad started the season, we'd be looking at 108 Catches for 1556 yards, minus the maybe 50 or so vinny threw him in the 3 games.

Coles IS an upper echelon WR and IS the real deal for the Jets. I definitely think he's worth anything Peerless Price could scrape up. "

that is a quote from their board. i tend to agree with it.

could bailey play the SS Ing? if we wanted to get him and put him behind Posey?

Ingtar33
03-09-2003, 11:41 PM
No... Bailey is a physical specimen, but I seriously doubt he has the size and strength necessary to play something other than WLB... heck people are theorizing about putting him in the SS position like we did with Coy Wire. He really is a career 'Will' (WLB), not a 'Mike' (MLB) or 'Sam' (SLB) backer.

oic.. so with tko here.. we would not even have any use for him then.

I think this is actually a smart move for the 'skins. They are essentially making a trade with the Jets. Trading a 1st and 5th for Coles and Morton. I think that is a good deal for the 'skins.

Anything move that makes an AFCE apponent worse, is a good move in my book.

I can tell ya this much, I am starting to like this Snyder guy...As long as he's crippling the Jets.

In actuallaty Snyder is a big ******, he is so incompetent it's not funny. But if his incompetence helps us, more power to him!

Remember if price didn't want to go to washington the deal wasn't going to happen! Go Bills!

I think losing Coles will hurt the Jets alot more than losing Peerless will hurt the Bills. Coles clearly was Pennington's go to guy, but Drew still has Moulds. Coles is definitely as good as Peerless.

All these signings and Washington still won't win anything because they have no QB. Oh wait, I forgot..........they took care of that too by signing RJ :pimp:

At first I thought the Skins were crazy for making this deal, but after seeing his numbers from last year, I don't think it is that far off. It will be interesting to see if the Jets match.

Talking about big contracts, do you know what Orlando Pace wants? Get this, 7 year 80 mill contract with a 23 mill signing bonus. That is insane!!!!!!!

I thought it was interesting to read the article on espn where the skins wanted Coles over Price because they believe he was a better player since he was the #1 in NY and was facing #1 cbs while Price benefitted from Mould's double teams.
