Another WR? Too many on their roster already. They're not taking Calvin Johnson anymore.

Agreeing to terms and actually signing are two different things. i.e. David Givens and Browns last year.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed WR Shaun McDonald to a two-year deal. Additional contract terms were not disclosed.

McDonald (5-10, 183) comes to Detroit as he enters his fifth NFL season. He will be reunited with Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz who was St. Louis’ head coach when the Rams drafted him in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. In three seasons as a reserve receiver in Martz’s offensive system, McDonald had 93 receptions for 1,079 yards and three touchdowns. His career totals are 106 receptions for 1,215 yards and four touchdowns.

In 2006, McDonald played in all 16 games and contributed on offense and special teams. He registered 13 receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown and was effective as a punt returner, finishing with 23 returns for 172 yards (7.5 avg.). In the Rams’ contest against the Redskins on Christmas Eve (12/24), he had a season-long 33-yard punt return in overtime that set-up a game-winning touchdown run by RB Steven Jackson.

McDonald had his most productive season in 2005 with 46 receptions for 523 yards in 16 games (two starts). He had his best day receiving as a NFL wideout at New York Giants (10/2) that season in Week 4, pulling in nine catches for 121 yards. Both were career highs. McDonald was also a steady contributor in his second pro season in 2004 when he finished with 37 receptions for 494 yards, highlighted by a career-long 52-yard touchdown in overtime to give St. Louis a win at Seattle (10/10).

As a rookie in 2003, McDonald debuted in the Rams’ season opener at New York Giants and had six receptions for 46 yards before suffering a thumb injury which sidelined him for the next four games.

McDonald was a standout receiver for Arizona State, finishing his collegiate career second on the school’s all-time list with 2,867 receiving yards. After his senior season with the Sun Devils, he was selected to all-America third team by The NFL Draft Report, Associated Press and the Sporting News in addition to being a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award which is annually given to the best wide receiver in the NCAA.

Do you think this prevents them from taking Johnson, because i don't think millen will touch him with a ten foot pole.

According to ESPN Insider they are shopping their second overall pick.

According to the Denver Post, the Lions have let it be known their No. 2 overall draft pick is up for trade. In fact, the Lions even held talks with the Broncos in the past month, but the asking price -- multiple draft picks that included Denver's No. 21 selection -- was considered far too high by the Broncos.

With an average record of 4-12 the past six seasons, the Lions are contemplating whether they can get greater value by moving down in the draft for multiple players and picks in return.

Denver had some interest, maybe the vikings, maybe tampa moves up. All said and done i think they take Thomas or quinn.

He's mike Martz's boy. He knows the offense. Damn good third receiver.

Williams, Furrey, m. Williams McDonald, can't see them taking johnson without a riot in Detriot.

I dont think they were ever going to take them.

Actually, they are the team that I think will definitely look to move down in the draft, and try to get a King's ransom for whomever wants CJ with the second pick.. The Lions are in a good position as they have a lot of holes and have a great bargaining chip with the second pick.

I wouldnt be shocked at all to see a team like Minnesota with the 7th pick try to move up, or maybe TB from 4 to make sure they get CJ.

If they do end up using the pick, consensus says Thomas but I think its going to be Quinn.

Don't forget their backup QB Josh McCown lines up at WR once in a while.
