Matt Schaub's contract with the Texans is worth $48 million over six years. The deal contains roughly $7 million in guaranteed money.
Starter's money. He'll net $20 million in the first three seasons, before a $10 million option bonus comes due in March 2010. Schaub, 26, was recommended to Gary Kubiak by Bill Musgrave, Al Groh, and Alex Gibbs. Kubiak and Schaub reportedly played a round of golf on Monday that "helped convince Kubiak and Schaub they were made for each other."

I'm sure there are some that would like to see Losman out in favor of Carr.

That is rediculous money for a guy who hasn't played much. I know the guy has some serious upside, but if it doesn't work, the Texans have just spent $100 mil on two QB busts.

Rob Johnson, part 2.

How could they give that much money to a guy who has 2 career starts and lost them both?

When i heard that the texans traded for schaub i thought it was a great move, but now hearing that contract and the picks they had to give up im not so sure. Almost three second round picks, one this year, next, and moving up two spots in the top ten. The texans better be right because Kubiak's job depends on this decision.

Newsflash. If JP plays even the same as he did last season, wht do you think it will cost for him?

To keep he and Evans we could be looking at 100 mil.

And they would be worth every penny.

I dont disagree, i just dont believe we will keep both. I dont see ralph tying up a buck fifty in 3 players on offense. (Dockery being the 3rd)

That would be the end of this franchise then. You have to keep your Kelly and Reed together!

Matt Schaub's contract with the Texans is worth $48 million over six years. The deal contains roughly $7 million in guaranteed money.
Starter's money. He'll net $20 million in the first three seasons, before a $10 million option bonus comes due in March 2010.

So it's a 3 year contract for 20 Mil. The 48 Mil means nothing more than a number his agent tells new clients, much like Dockerys 7 year 49 Mil, which is really a 4 year contract for a little over 20-22 Mil. (Year 5 is a big March bonus he'll never see.) .The backloaded part is never seen.

With only seven million guarenteed they could cut him after year one with somewhere in the neiborhood of a 6 million dollar cap hit.

Thank you. That's like the Pats freaking out when Bledsoe signed that 10 year 102 Mil deal several years back. As if he was going to see 20 % of that.

We need to extend Evans' contract immediately...

Until Houston addresses their hideous oline (yes it's worse than ours) than it don't matter who's playing QB there - Schaub has no more mobility than Carr did.

Don't worry, everyone will ignore this. It's easier to focus on the big number.

I had a mild heart attack when I read the topic of this thread. At first glance I though it said "SHAUD gets 48 Million." Ha!
